*sigh*
I changed to CA a few weeks ago. CA is anti-virus and firewall, it's free to Time-Warner customers, and it runs faster with TWC's internet setup, so why not? A few days ago, we'd try to download pictures off the digital camera, and the firewall'd shut the computer down the second the camera was accessed. Huh? Completely shut it down, reboot it, the second it recognized the camera. If I left the camera plugged in, it would reboot after the reboot sometimes.
I chatted with CA online a few time, and they were remarkably unhelpful. They finally actually sent me to TWC, who tried their best. For a day or two, it even looked fixed, but then it stopped again. They sent me to...CA. A lady from CA called yesterday and talked to me on the phone as we tried things on the computer. Yet again, someone was using my computer from afar. It was a bit unnerving on a privacy level.
The results? At around the same time all this started, Microsoft sent the Service Pack 3 update. CA told me to call Microsoft and get them to fix it, since it's not their fault, either. They think it's something to do with driver changes. I'd tried to uninstall SP3, in case it was that, but there was no change. However, the CA tech thinks the drivers wouldn't revert just because I uninstalled it, so yeah, it must be Microsoft's problem. So why does this problem go away if I uninstall CA? No, it's clearly Microsoft's problem.
Did I mention how many hours I've spent on this in the last two weeks? I just want my pictures...
