We're in, and wow. It's been a couple of days of trials, but we've made it.
Saturday was all the moving. We started early, got the truck and picked up all the stuff at Amy's folks' place. After that, we picked up everything out of the storage locker. We brought all that here, unloaded it (mostly to the attic, though not the comic boxes yet), then went to the apartment and, in two loads, got everything that was too big for the car. Then we dropped off the truck AT 2:30 IN THE MORNING, came back home, and went to bed.
Oh, forgot to mention, couldn't get the box springs up the stairs, even with the neighbors' help. Oddly enough, they're moving out this weekend, and the landlord's daughter and her b/f are moving in. Odd how all this works...anyway, the landlord came by yesterday and took out the upstairs bedroom window, then lifted the box springs to me on the porch roof (hello, hello, I'm at a place called vertigo), and we drug them in (both box springs, since he was nice). Then we went to his place and he had me help lift and tote the "new" air conditioner here, then helped install it in a downstairs window.
Yesterday was also Linc's wedding, which was fun. Since Linc was busy and I didn't know any of the families, I got to hang out with Steve Marsh for most of the time, which was great. For those of you who don't remember, he's my publisher (The Wordsmith Press). For those of you REALLY not in the know, he's executive director of Poetry Slam/PSI. He's also one of the nicest and friendliest guys I've ever met. The wedding was nice but short (go, Legend of Zelda theme music wedding march), the reception was nice and long, and I discovered the impressive taste of Fox's Pizza Den (mmmm!).
Today, I managed to put away a few things while trying to keep up with the daughter, since Amy put so much away yesterday. When I got home from work tonight, we carried the last of the big stuff (dressers, a mattress, Zoey's toy box) upstairs, and then we watched as everything fell into place. Wow, this place is more spacious than I even realized.
While there are still boxes here and there to finish, and while there's stuff at the old apartment to pack up and bring over (and we have to clean over there), this place is really coming together. A few more curtains bought when we can afford it, another air conditioner (ditto), and we'll be in a good place.
Of course, this can't have gone that well. Amy's left knee and my right one are both shot. It's difficult at best to hobble around as much as I've got to hobble, but it's the price we pay for doing all the moving on our own. All our moving friends were either wounded or busy planning a wedding, and we quickly discovered that we had no other real friends 'round here, apparently. Not like we'd have had any more, number wise, in Chattanooga, either. It was just a bad weekend to move, with everyone else's schedule. *sigh*
We got cable on the day after we moved, which included internet, but our phone's not on yet. Something about 911 service taking longer to change the location. It'll be on eventually, I'm sure, and we've got email and Dora, so I guess we'll live.
I need to hobble around the yard as I mow soon, but I probably can't get to that before the weekend. Damn work and all that. I still have to find a job that pays me better and lets me work daytime hours...We'll still need to go through the attic when we recover. We've got to organize up there, and stairs aren't our friends as of yet. Oh, well, no hurry right now (except Scott would like me to find my Dark Tower).
Whenever our finances and our bodies recover, this place will be fabulous. For now, it's definitely a good thing.
Zoey's taken the move pretty well. She pointed to her crib yesterday and told me "Night-night - that way." Just identifying where it was. Amy commented that Zoey was getting to be a little girl, and where was the baby she used to have, and Zoey told her, "That way." She's all about directions lately. Zoey's all about the "new house," too. The cast hasn't slowed her down, and she's done well with it. Another, what, three weeks?
Eventually, when a few more things are put away and I have a chance to mow, we'll have to have someone(s) over.
Tomorrow's library day (and evening) for my classes, so I'll be able to pick up another book or two until I can find my books again. Christ, there's no end to the boxes marked "book" in the attic now, but I'm pretty sure I've read most of those, and I've not found the ones that were on the shelf yet. It'll get there, but I'd like something to read. When there's money, gotta get the new Harry Potter. Until then, don't you HP readers spoil it on here. :)~
moving,
