Don't turn around

Israel sent a cadre of naval special forces to stop a 'flotilla' of boats coming to break the blockade of Gaza, and during the confrontation, killed 9 people.

The Israeli public are 'unhappy' with the deaths, and want to censure the minister who authorized the special forces. There's even mutterings of having him resign. But they still support the blockade of Gaza. (so sez NPR)

So, they want a military solution (blockade) but they are not comfortable with the results of military action (deaths).

WTF!!!!

I must really be missing something about the whole Israel situation. The illegal settlements that the gov't won't even stop people from building more of and this 'support the blockade but not the inevitable results' bull seem so counter-productive. So much painting themselves into a corner. So DUMB.

A 2-state solution seems to be the only viable solution, and Israel is the party holding it up. I recognize moving people out of the settlements would be hard, but stop supporting them, stop protecting them, do some sort of criminal fines (since they are, after all, ILLEGAL), provide alternative incentives to move to legal towns, and they will dry up. May take a while, but the kids won't stay if there's no opportunities.

If Israel gave a little, they would cut the support for people who think they should not exist. The past oppression of the Jewish people does not give them a free pass on current oppression, and they, of all people, should know this.
