I'm in DC at Sam's house now, working on the database. Tonight I went with his wife to the ballet. I've never been to the ballet before. It's so gay. It really is just about the most affected artform imaginable. Men in tights and girls in tutus jumping around waving their arms around. Tomorrow we take the train up to NY to meet with Michael and the programmer. I'll also see Alex and Doug which will be fun. We debut in March, which is so close. We've got a lot of work to do, but it's coming along and should be really cool.
I got an email this morning that a friend of mine in the library was killed in an avalanche yesterday. He was coming back from Sequoia with a friend and they got caught in a blizzard. They camped out but were buried in an avalache during the night. They had beacons and his friend found his body buried in the snow. He was a really great guy and though we weren't super close, we got along really well and had an easy rapport. We just had lunch last week and we shared the news with each other about our new relationships. We'd both been having trouble meeting people in Santa Barbara but he'd recently started dating a woman in SLO and he seemed really upbeat. It's so sad, I just can't stop thinking about him.
