Flabulous! An Evening of Performance by and for People of Size and Their Allies

San Francisco, CA, October 19, 2009 - Queer performance artists, Kentucky Fried Woman & Jay Walker, in conjunction with NOLOSE and the Queer Cultural Center, are thrilled to announce Flabulous!, a special evening of performances featuring some of the west coast’s most celebrated performers of size that will take place on Saturday, November 21, 2009 at SOMArts Cultural Center as part of the Affordable Space Program, which is supported by the San Francisco Arts Commission.

The cabaret style performance includes burlesque, dance, drag, song and a band with acts ranging from the hysterically funny to the highly dramatic and always entertaining. There will be two shows on November 21, one at 7pm and the other at 9pm. Tickets are $15 for general admission or $20 for premium seats. Both shows are expected to sell out, so buy your tickets now at http://tiny.cc/Flabulous or at the door on a first come first serve basis on the day of the shows.

“We are thrilled to be creating an event that will feature some of the hottest talent from around the West Coast and that specifically addresses the lived experiences of people of size,” says Kentucky Fried Woman, a fat activist and performer who is featured in the book, Femmes of Power. “Our goal is to create a celebration where people of size have an opportunity to shine for their community, fans and allies in a place where all are valued and recognized as beautiful.”

“It was important for me as an ally to people of size, to help create this crucial space for our community,” explains former San Francisco Drag King champion, Jay Walker. “We want a huge turn out from people of all shapes and sizes to this event because the fight against fat-phobia and body-hatred is one that must be engaged in by every person in our community.”

The Flabulous! line up features some of the most celebrated and inspiring performance artists from the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond, including writer/singer/songwriter and political activist, Nomy Lamm, who will be performing with her band, OBEAST; the stunning singer and burlesque artist, Alotta Boutté, of Harlem Shake Burlesque and Beach Blanket Babylon; the smoldering vocals of Leigh Crow, aka Elvis Herselvis and singer with The Mighty Slim Pickins; and from Seattle, Pidgeon von Tramp, 1/3 of the powerhouse trio and Miss Exotic World winning troupe, the Von Foxies as well as Phenix Love, a founding member of the Queen Bees.

Flabulous! also features performances by San Francisco’s “It” Girl, Jukie Sunshine; Hogwarts Express: The Musical’s Malcolm Pecs & Tyrone Peaches; drag king sensations CHUBB & Brock Cocker; burlesque divas Ruby Vixen, Lady Monster, Juicy D. Light & Rubenesque Burlesque; Big Moves Bay Area's resident dance company for the curvaceous and confident, Phat Fly Girls; the legendary faux queen, Holy McGrail; and the powerhouse spoken word artist, Mz. Amy.

We hope that Flabulous! contributes to a growing social change movement centered in body positivity and the belief that people can be healthy and happy at any size.
