Here here. These are the kind of things that at the time didn't seem so sexist...but you think we're progressive that how many of didn't cheer when Buffy just kicked some major demon ass. Or who didn't cheer when Buffy hits Parker over the head with a stick? LOL.
Oh sorry, if I implied in some way I didn't like her being a general...sorry that's not what I meant. I agree, she's ridiculed she's not allowed to do the same things that Angel had. IF she does the same kind of thing...like I said she's demonized for it, while it's acceptable. Do I think it was acceptable for the mindwipe? Of course not, I understand his intentions for it, but that wasn't his decision to make. And what about the repercussions? It seems that only Buffy (and like you said, to an extent Willow or any other strong female character) gets lynched for such a thing, which makes it seem like the writers are ok with it.
Oh lord...do NOT bring up the C word. I believe that it became my most hated word lol. Jesus way to undermine that term and make it lose all meaning. It's ok for Buffy to take charge so long as she's still "emotional", but y'know was she was right, this was war and shutting herself off was her way of dealing, and did Angel not do that time and time again? I think the worst part was when Buffy accuses Giles, tells him that HE said she needed to become a leader...she does and then she's ostracized?
Yes, this probably also comes from a lot of overanalyzing after the fact *G* but that doesn't mean the evidence isn't there to prove it. And it cuts me especially because I loved Buffy's character so much and she'd been through SO Much hardship, had to grow up way too fast....and it's as if she can't get a break, she doesn't get enough credit for what she did, how many lives she's saved. If ANYONE is a champion (uuuuugh) it's Buffy. She doesn't get a reward in the end, she doesn't get paid, she doesn't get any of the things that Angel ends up getting, and no doubt that she would keep fighting even after Willow released the essence of the slayer into all the girls...she's just that kind of person.
Did we not see what she was willing to do in Helpless? How she couldn't NOT fight them, how she couldn't just accept the world the way the world was? God, that's a fantastic episode.
