Chapter 2
Kai drummed his pen against the white desk he had been writing on, Ruki was sitting across from him. He had noticed that the drummer had been writing, but stopped suddenly. Like there was a roadblock that he couldn’t get over. Kai then dropped his head on the table. “I can’t believe this shit.” Kai thought to himself, groaning loudly.
“What’s wrong this time?” Ruki said, finally looking up.
“Ugh, I’m just thinking…” Kai mumbled.
“Oh, well. What are you thinking about?”
“Things at home.”
“What’s going on at home?”
“N-nothing really,” Kai said pathetically.
“Is he still drinking like a camel?”
“More like fucking dog; I can’t really fathom someone who drinks more than him. Its disgusting.” Kai said softly, he didn’t
want Reita to overhear. The bassist was recording in the studio, so silence or whispers were the only way to communicate. Kai sighed heavily, closing his eyes. Ruki cocked his head to the side, wondering what the drummer was thinking about.
“I hope he didn’t hear. I hope not. He’ll just rip me apart when we get home.” Kai thought, closing his eyes. Tears flooding his them, he rubbed them away quickly.
“Are you alright, K-” Ruki was rudely interrupted by Reita.
“W-why are you crying Yutaka?” Reita asked as he walked in, he put a hand on Kai’s shoulder.
“N-nothing.” Kai choked out, opening his eyes and looking at the blond. He wiped the tears from the brunettes face.
“It’ll be alright, no one’s going to hurt you. Not while I’m around.” Reita said, reassuring Kai.
“Promise?”
“Promise.” Reita said. Kai looked at him, his eye’s glistening in belief.
“And I believed him. Again. He always say’s that everything will be okay when it isn’t. He’s up to something. I know.” Kai thought to himself, smiling up at the bassist.
“I love you.” Reita said, smiling genuinely.
“I love you too, very much.”
“You want to go home?” Reita asked, tilting his head to the side.
“No, I think I’m going to stay. Wait until everyone else is tired.”
“Are you sure?”
“Positive.” The drummer nodded, smiling up at Reita. Reita turned his back and left.
“So. What’s going on at home?” Ruki asked quietly.
“N-nothing.” Kai lied, again. He absent mindedly doodled on his sheet of paper, quickly losing interest in what he was writing.
“I know that face. Something is wrong.”
“Nothing is wrong.” Kai said, making his voice known. Ruki cocked an eyebrow, his smile fading.
“You aren’t getting any are you?”
“You’re such an asshole and yes. I am. Almost every night.”
“Are you giving or taking?”
“What the Hell, Taka?”
“Its just a question, just answer.”
“Both. Depends on the day.”
“Ah, now I’m getting to my point. Is that why you’re covered in bruises?” Ruki asked, cocking his head to the side. Kai knew that he could cover this up so well.
“I wish I could tell you the truth, Taka. Then I would be saved.” Kai thought to himself.
“Yes. That’s exactly why. I’m just fabulously embarrassed, to tell the truth.”
“Oh, I understand.”
“Dudes, we’re finished recording.” Uruha said, Aoi was holding his hand pulling on his arm.
“C-can I get a ride?” Kai asked, cautiously.
“Yeah, I’m kind of in the same boat.” Ruki chirped in.
“Sure!” Uruha said, “Just, be fore warned. Aoi’s a bit needy.” Uruha giggled. The four boys walked out of the studio, and jumped in Aoi’s four door silver car. It wasn’t until five minutes later, they hit a traffic light. Kai’s eyes nearly popped out of his skull, he couldn’t believe his eyes. Uruha’s arm was in Aoi’s lap, motioning up and down. Slightly, he was doing a really good job on keeping in hidden. The brunette looked at the smaller man next to him, who was disregarding it. Ruki always got a ride from the two guitarists.
“Are you believing this?” Kai mouthed.
“It happens.” Ruki responded looking out the window. “Just try to ignore it.”
What seemed like hours, but it was just a minimum of 30 minutes. He opened the door, to find Reita passed out on the couch. He tip toed his way to the dinning room table, he had avoided what looked like a disaster. The brunette quietly went over to clean up Reita’s mess. Throwing away the glass bottles, it looked like he cleaned himself of the alcohol all by himself.
“That’s it. I’m not buying any more alcohol.” Kai thought to himself, he took off his shoes and placed them by the door. He hadn’t had seen the puddle, nor did he see the glass. He walked over to the bathroom and he slipped, like a full blown cartoon slip. Thud his body went, blood dripping down his face. A piece of glass had cut into his arm.
“Oww…” He groaned.
“What..?” Reita croaked, looking over the back of the coach. “Oh my God, are you okay?” the blond asked, getting up out of the couch.
“Y-yeah, I think so.” Kai said, getting up slowly. “No. No, I’m not. Ow.” Kai laid back down., tears coming out of his eyes.
“J-just leave me here, to die alright?” he joked.
“How about no. I’m not going to let that happen. Now lets get you to the emergency room.”
“N-no. I’m fine.”
“Honey, you’re bleeding.” Reita said, pointing out the obvious.
“I’m more con… I’m bleeding?!?!” Kai turned his head, to face his left arm. Blood was pouring out of it. “Okay, help me up.”
he extended his right arm, Reita pulled him up.
“Can you walk or am I going to have to carry you?” Reita asked, he was very serious.
“I think so.” Kai said, standing up straight. “Lets just go to the emergency room then.” Kai said, being very bummed that he had to go. This was only their first trip and it wasn’t really Reita’s fault but, the others would think it was.
The drive to the hospital was dreadful, more dreadful than anything else. Reita didn’t want to leave his side at all, he held his hand all through out waiting and getting him checked. Kai needed stitches.
The doctors brows went together during the exam, he had noticed some of Kai’s bruises. He noted how close together and irregular they were. Some were healing, some were fresh. The doctor nodded and faced Kai.
“Can I talk to you alone, Yutaka?” The doctor asked, Reita’s face went ghost white. He’d been figured out. Kai gasped, he didn’t want to let any one know the truth. The real truth.
“Y-yeah, Reita I think I can handle this by myself.” Kai’s face was looking up at his other half. Reita nodded and swallowed hardly. Reita walked out of the room with out a fight, he was frightened.
The door shut and the doctor faced Kai again, his face more relaxed.
“I need to know the truth about your bruises. The whole truth. I don’t want any lies.” He said, his face was stern. Like Kai’s father on the day he had left.
“You know how it is, when you’re in love…” Kai began. “Reita has had his fare share of the bruises. I guess its my turn for a few, eh?” he couldn’t believe how witty he had been.
“Ah, I see. So, you two are a thing?” The doctor asked, disinfecting Kai’s cut.
“Yeah, have been for almost a year now. I’m really happy with him. Ow, is that supposed to sting? Can my love come back in? I miss him dearly.” Yutaka was holding in the giggles.
“Yeah, Yutsuma, go get the boy!” The doctor ordered and the nurse in the corner obeyed. Reita walked back in, worry in
his face. Kai reassured him by giving on of his dimply smiles.
“See. I have a dimple on this side and maybe a dimple on this side.” Kai smiled, pointing to his cheeks.
“I don’t have a dimple. At all.” Reita chuckled, holding Kai’s hand. “Are you hurt?”
“No. I’m just getting stitches for fun! That’s what the kids are doing these days!” Kai laughed.
“Please don’t laugh.” The doctor said, “Okay, I’m going to start the sewing again.”
“Akira, don’t make me laugh!” Kai said, “But, could you hold my hand?” He asked, reaching out his right arm. Reita entwined his fingers in Kai’s, who squeezed his hand while he was being sewed up. Reita petted Kai’s brunette hair, trying to comfort him.
“I never really asked how you got your cut, did I?”
“Oh, I was being the klutz that I am. The floor was wet and I didn’t know because I had gotten home late. From what I assume, Reita didn’t clean up the vase that fell from the countertop. I walked over to our room to place my shoes in the closet and I fell. It was like one of those cartoon like falls, when your legs go over your head. That’s how it was. Blondie over here had fallen asleep after practice and woke up to me being on the floor.”
“I was so startled! I thought you were seriously hurt, he’s fallen before though. He tripped over a plant in the studio!”
“That plant came out of nowhere!” Kai smiled.
“Okay! You’re all better now Yutaka!” The doctor placed a nice gauze patch over his stitches.
“So, we’re free?”
“Yes! Go wreck havoc you rebels!” the doctor joked. The two boys laughed, Reita helping Kai up. They both walked, hand and hand, out of the hospital. In the parking lot, Reita had faced Kai. He cringed.
“What did you tell him?” Reita said, looking into Kai’s eyes. He made it look like they were having an intimate moment.
“I told him that the bruises were from our rough sex.” Kai said, softly touching his forehead with Reita’s.
“Nice cover.” Reita said, giving Kai an Eskimo kiss.
“That noseband of yours, it tickles. You insist on wearing that-” the brunette was interrupted with a soft kiss.
“Rei…” Kai said, pulling away slowly.
“What?”
“Lets go home. I’m tired.”
“Yeah, you’ve had a big day. Oh. By the way, you want to go on a date tomorrow?” Reita asked, curiously.
“Yeah, that sounds like fun.” he said as they walked to the car. Reita opened it for him like a gentleman.
“For you my dear.” He said as he opened the door.
“Oh. Thank you.” Kai said, kissing Reita’s cheek. The blond closed the door as Kai put his seat belt on.
“What is he up too? If only this was what we really were like in front of each other.” Kai thought, shaking his head to remove the thought. Reita started the car and drove home. They held hands all the way home.
