Summary: Jensen's a street-hardened hooker who's sure he knows how things are meant to be. Jared's a bleeding heart with more money than sense. He wants to save Jensen, but will Jensen let him?
Disclaimer: I do not own Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki or either of their families. I also don't own the song I Want To Save You; it's by Something Corporate. Fiction is the word, and the words are mine.
Status: Ongoing.
Notes: The title of this fic is shamelessly stolen from Something Corporate. The plot, however - not so much. This is part of the
street 'verse.
Jared Padalecki is on his way home from a late business meeting this Thursday night. It's rare for him to be out this late; he's usually back home by seven at the latest because although he loves his company and his job in general, he doesn't want to turn into his workaholic father and he enjoys his housekeeper Loretta's cooking even more than he loves selling cars. But tonight some work had piled up, backlogged accounts and the like which were annoying to deal with, but doing them tonight meant he didn't have to come into work on Saturday to deal with them so he can't complain, really.
He's driving through one of the rougher neighbourhoods; only a few minutes away from his house, but worlds away in terms of affluence. The street he's on is well known in the area as being a pickup point for hookers, but Jared's never usually here at this time of night so the thought doesn't really register with him until he sees a man leaning against a wall, wearing the thinnest shirt and the clingiest jeans he's ever seen. Jared slows down the car unconsciously as he swears he can make out the man's nipples, despite the fact that it's the dead of night and there's no direct light shining on him.
Without thinking about it, Jared pulls the car to a stop a few feet past the guy. He pops the glove compartment, grabs a couple of hundred dollar bills and shuts it again just as the man reaches his window. He hits the switch to slide it down, then holds the money out to the man. Shocked green eyes meet his, but he stares back calmly and waits for the guy to take it.
"What the hell?" Jensen Ackles asks. Some rich idiot in a beautiful car has just cruised him and then handed over two hundred bucks without so much as a, "Suck my dick." Any john with a pinch of common sense knows you pay after the sex, not before. Even if you're new to the game - and this guy isn't, from the calm look on his face rather than the sweaty twitching which usually accompanies newbies - no one can be this stupid.
Jared shrugs. He's had this response before. "You look like you need the money more than I do," is all he says. Jared's just this kind of guy. He's only twenty, but he's always had enough money than he knew what to do with from his family's business, and now his own car dealership earns him even more. His friends call him Bleeding Heart because he can't not worry about other people in need, but he takes it with good grace and simply helps out where he can. It means he can sleep well at night.
The mint condition Impala '67 he's driving, not to mention the gold watch and obviously professionally styled hair, say he's loaded, but Jensen's suspicious. "You want me to blow you or something?" Subtlety is not one of Jensen's stronger points, but then it doesn't need to be. It wouldn't be terrible, he considers even as he offers. The guy certainly keeps himself well-groomed, and there's nothing more disgusting than blowing a guy who doesn't understand that you really ought to wash under your foreskin.
Jared might give money away on a regular basis to anyone he thinks needs it, but he doesn't often run into hookers and consequently, the offer shocks him somewhat. "No!" he replies, eyes widening while Jensen's expression stays sceptical. "Not for money, anyway," he adds without thinking because he's a straightforward guy like that. His mouth gets him in trouble sometimes, but his easy smile will smooth over even the worst of faux pas, and his honesty is what makes him such a reliable car dealer and is the reason why his empire is fast threatening to overtake even his father's. He doesn't worry about what he says too much.
Jensen's returning grin is almost nasty in its condescension, but Jared gets the feeling that's just the way Jensen is, and he appreciates that Jensen isn't trying to hustle him with fake enticements for more money. "Well, sorry son," Jensen replies. "But I don't swing that way."
There's a pause after Jared smiles slightly; he takes the comment well. It starts to get awkward when Jensen realises the guy probably wouldn't mind just staying here and talking to him all night because he seems like that type, but he's got things to do. "Well, thanks, anyway," he says, standing straighter and moving back from the car so the guy can still easily see his face, but he's aware their conversation is ending.
"No problem," Jared replies easily. He winds up the window and drives off, admiring the man's body in the wing mirror as he goes.
