Merlin is so silly and so light, bright and improbable--I don't mean the show, with its obvious flaws, but the idea within the show--these young careless people who love each other without realizing it, and know so little.
It can be curiously heartbreaking to consider what lies ahead. How none of them can save what they care about most: Arthur unable to save his kingdom, Merlin finding a knot of destiny he can't resolve in any way that protects Arthur, Gwen losing all those she loves one by one, and Morgana lost and strange even to herself.
Were it not so bright and wholly foolish, if they didn't all waste so much time being young and confused while spring is in the world--if they didn't then go down fighting--I don't think I could love this fandom the way I do.
