Everyone must go watch this Merlin vid, Unsteady Ground, right now. Morgana can see the shape of things to come. The song, the use of clips, the story it tells of the cracks already starting to form around them are all breathtaking.

(And it's the perfect companion to the beautifully tragic Arthur vid Red.)

I just went and watched it. So pretty and tragic and beautifully constructed. Thanks for the rec!

(Hi! *smiles*)

It's just amazing, isn't it? It makes me proud to be a tiny part of this crazy collective project we called fandom.

Whoa. straw into gold is exactly right. That's an astonishing vid; and I'm grateful to have seen the series first, because if I didn't already know she'd started with straw I would have been desperately disappointed when I finally saw the episodes themselves.

When I finished that vid I was awed, because it's a brilliantly made vid--but also so full of love for fandom, for what we do here, that I wasn't sure what to do with it all. It's just such an amazing transfiguration, taking a silly, flawed, pretty and occasionally charming show and making it into this.

The only reason I can think of for not wishing this was the original show is that it would then be so brilliant and perfect and complete-in-itself that there wouldn't be space for, or a need for, this wild fruitful amazing fandom that's springing up and giving us stunning feats like this on a shockingly regular basis.

By the by, I wonder if the New Style isn't just as apparent in vidding: transformation is now just as valid as loving fidelity, and enjoyment isn't necessarily premised on already being emotionally committed to the show or characters.
