Double Drabble: Solstice (YnM, Watari/Tatsumi)

Dec 26, 2008 18:03

AN: for lady_ganesh. Part of the Winter Collection.

SolsticeThe days in Meifu do not grow short, but spin forever unchanged beyond the rhythms meant for the living. But late in the year Wakaba brings plates of dark spiced cookies. Tsuzuki wears a Santa hat for three days straight (he keeps trying to make Hisoka wear it, just once) and someone leaves a box ( Read more... )

Oooh, this is beautiful. I particularly like the mention of Tsuzuki's Santa hat (which as far as I'm concerned ought to be canonical) -- but of course, it's the poignance of the deadly lack of change in Meifu's seasons, and the courage with which the shinigami fight that changelessness, that makes this so lovely.

Mind you, mine is still my favorite. But.

Are there going to be more? Not that I mean to be greedier than usual, but there's something in that 'Winter Collection' subtitle that raises my hopes.

Thanks! (Aren't there drawings of Tsuzuki in a Santa hat? Or did the utter Rightness and Necessity of it lead me simply to assume they existed with a kind of hallucinatory intensity?)

Frankly I was rather shocked by this drabble--it's the most optimistic Yami bit I've ever done, probably because I was looking over lady_ganesh's fics before I wrote it, but still. And, yes, there are a few more to come when I get back in town again.

Tsuzuki in a Santa hat is boniblithe's default icon for December. I have a notion that it might have been specifically made for her, though I'm not certain of it. But it's been there on her journal every year since she and Rana inadvertently got me into all this, and as far as I'm concerned winter isn't winter until I've seen it. It's like the Internet equivalent of the first robin of spring.

But you're right: if it didn't exist, we would have had to invent it.

I'm always amused when people replace their default icons with Santa hat versions--some of the results are such a strange mixture of incongruous and charming. And they way they seem to just appear is pleasantly eerie.

This is utterly lovely. It is somehow tragic and hopeful at the same time, and so delicate, either way. Wonderful.

Thanks! This was as much hope as I could find for them, in the land of the dead.
