Housekeeping: a couple of wallpapers,
Muraki being all elegantly psychopathic, and
John Lennon (which is prue fangirl self-indulgence).
Politics: Usually I try to keep this journal more or less fanish, but here are a couple of links.
Secret and Ties -- You know that Simpsons episode where the Springfield Republicans gather to hold their secret meeting? This will make that scene even funnier -- or not funny at all.
Ten Most Harmful Books of the 19th and 20th Centuries -- I've read at least part of every book on their list, so here's to all the irreparable harm they just must have done me. Their "Honorable Mention" list is a riot: the inclusion of "On Liberty" speaks for itself.
Beware the Holy War -- An interesting review of a new documentary about the American "war on terror."
Rec: I was skimming through
crack_van and, going with one of those random, what-the-hell impulses, picked a Hercules fic,
Hecate's Chalice by
sivib.
I've never seen anything more than ads for the series, and this fic is a species of h/c (which on the whole I really, really dislike) but it avoids a lot of the most irritating h/c cliches by being well plotted and skipping the usually "sex in a cave with an injured person who's just been tortured" bit. Never understood that one. Of course, I've always had this thing for well-done blind!fics.
Movies: The Music Man is one of the handful of truly great musicals and a classic pieces of Americana (and not in a bad way). The 1962 version with Robert Preston is far and away the best ever filmed, perfectly cast and well choreographed. (Try to imagine it with Frank Sinatra, who was at one time thought of for the title role *snicker*)
Happy Birthday
