Songs that fit

Jul 07, 2008 23:31

I keep meaning to put up some of the songs that represent my characters, or at least help me get their voices when I'm feeling sluggish. I haven't found enough songs, though. So I'll just keep updating this entry when stuff comes up.

And I need suggestions like whoa.

Characters:
Yelena (xXx)
Cybil Bennett (Silent Hill I)
Richard Riddick (Pitch Black)
Shane Wolfe (The Pacifier)
Boromir (the Lord of the Rings)
Brachi Stildyne (the Jurisdiction novels)
John Marcone (the Dresden Files novels)

Spoilers:
Storm Front, book 1 of the Dresden Files
Small Favor, book 10 of the Dresden Files.

Yelena Trepashkin:
The songs from the movie are good to get into the 'whoo, spies and guns' mood, but Yelena is a smidge more subtle. (A tad.)
Cake - Short Skirt, Long Jacket: This has pretty much been Leni's song from the day I picked her up. Quirky and exceedingly competent.
[Yelena needs quirky songs and spy songs]

Cybil Bennett:
Pink - You and Your Hand: is probably a little young and punky for Cybil. She's not that overtly anti-social. She's smugger and more condescending. But it's a good start.
Santana - Into the Night: Is definitely her song for when she's getting mushy with Johns.
Imogen Heap - Glittering Cloud: For when she's dealing with her experiences in Silent Hill. She can share this one with Johns.
[Cybil needs cold, competent woman songs.]

John Marcone:
Coldplay - Viva la Vida: A great Haurvatat song for him. And, really, it fits with any of the pups here who were extremely powerful in their home universes and are less so here. (Camulus, looking at you). It's something I imagine going through his head when was Nicodemus' prisoner in Small Favor.
Depeche Mode - Policy of Truth: Good for getting in the mood to him, I can picture him saying this one to Harry.
Assemblage23 - Regret: Harry Dresden looks into his soul and sees competence, ruthlessness, and GUILT. Seriously. It's his motivation. It's his driving force. Dude is definitely Catholic (and he thinks he's going to hell, too. Just knows 'redeeming' himself would mean letting Chicago go all to shit.)
Speaking of Assemblage 23:
He wishes he could say this one to Hendricks.
And the two cough-into-the-sleeve relationship-what-relationship songs. The exasperated one and the amazed one.
[John needs cold, competent man songs.]

Boromir:
The movie soundtrack, obviously, but no song-songs yet.

Richard Riddick:
Sting - Sister Moon: For when the occasions on which he's not feeling so re-integrated with the human race-- which are rarer and rarer in game. Still a good song.
Ozzy - Shot in the Dark: is totally his and Johns' chase song.
Sting - Probably Me: is more his and Johns' relationship in game, since they're all peace-makey and pussy and trucey and they understand each other better than most other people can.
[He needs songs about family, because that's a big for him. It's canon that he'll go kill the shit out of anyone who screws with his people, and he's got a lot of people these days.]

Shane Wolfe:
Harry Chapin - Cat's in the Cradle: His entire character arc is learning to get over his daddy issues. This is Shane's song ENTIRELY.
Dave Matthews - American Baby: Shane can get annoying and very, very type-A, but I always need to remember that it's in him to be strong, and solid, and make things better. He's a rock. Even after the vampire thing. (Speaking of which, he can share Glittering Cloud with Cybil and Johns)
[Shane needs brotherhood/manly friends/patriotic songs-- but nothing too schmaltzy, because he's gotten over himself.]

Brachi Stildyne:
Chris Isaak- Wicked Game: Stildyne's always going to be grumpy about falling in love.
Scorpions - No One Like You: but he enjoys dragging Stanoczk into bed. A lot.
[Stildyne needs gritty, lonely country songs. He's almost fifty, and he's just made a life change and left everything behind him. Unrequited-love songs good, too. Suggesting 'YMCA' by the village people will get public denouncement and private agreement.]

Suggestions for other pups:
Coldplay - Viva la Vida for EVERYONE (or at least Camulus, Wukong, Polgara, Q...)
Cake - Going the Distance for Dom Toretto
Jethro Tull - Broadsword for Michael Carpenter
Heart - Magic Man for Charity Carpenter (taking the much darker connotations)
Depeche Mode - Walking in My Shoes for Andrej Koscuisko
Depeche Mode - I am You for Andrej and Joslire
Depeche Mode - Mercy in You for Stanoczk
Carolina Liars - Over You for Lilah. (And I think I had another one there.)
