I was lucky enough to get a job right after college. I know a lot of people have a hard time finding one right out of school, so I lucked out there. The trouble is, that this job is not so good. Mostly the people are nice, and the atmosphere is relaxed and I have plenty of time to post on Startrek.com or browse ebay, or browse around here.
One of the bad things is my coworker. She acts like she's my boss when realy she has the exact same job and title as me. She behaves like she is trying to get me fired. Pointing out things to vendors to make it seem like I'm making mistakes, but gets upset when I turn around and do the same thing to her. She turns issues around and makes everything look like it's my fault when either it's nothing or realy her fault.
This May will be my second anniversary of being hired full time. And I thought I would be entitled to 2 weeks of vacation, and a week of personal/sick time then. Boy was a wrong. After 2 years I only get 40 hours of vacation, and 40 hours of personal/sick. After 2 full years here only ONE WEEK!!!!!
Even worse is the pay. I have a college degree and make less than $30k a year. That is not enough to live off of in New Jersey. My husband isn't earning any money right now because we just opened up a store and business is slow. We are lucky enough to have a nice place to live that is free, but it plays into the Trekkie stereotype a little too much for my taste...yes, I live in my parents' basement (but no, I'm not a virgin)
I have been on many interviews and nothing has come of it except for me calling out sick and losing a day's pay. Last week I had two interviews in a great company, that paid more, was closer to home, and was a step in the path of my actual career goal. But as usual the only thing that came of it was the loss of two day's pay.
