Hustle S8E6 - The Final Episode

Feb 17, 2012 22:18

My heart is pounding. What a brilliant send-off! Everything I could've wished for and more.

HUGE SPOILERS under the cut! DO NOT READ if you intend to ever watch the finale of Hustle, it will RUIN it for you!

MARC WARREN YOU ARE SUCH A LYING LIAR WHO LIES!

Earlier this week he tweeted this:

This Friday is the last ever episode of Hustle.
I have seen it but I can confirm I'm not in it. Hustle
fans will love it.We started in 2003!

God dammit, this tweet is 95% of why I was freaking out so much over whether they were all really dead!

The way I figured it was: we're all expecting there to be a twist in the tale. It happens every week. They think of everything and get out. It's how this show works. So ... if we're all expecting that (which let's face it we are), the biggest twist they could give us would for Mickey to fail. For them all to die on that rooftop.

I am not saying that's what I think should've happened. I am fucking relieved that didn't happen. But. I couldn't help but think that that was going to happen.

See, if you knew Danny was in it, or suspected that Danny was in it, that would ruin it, actually. Because you'd just guess - they brought Stacie back, so obviously the gunman whose face you never see will of course be Danny. It's really obvious. (I could even see the places where it all fit together. I could virtually see Stacie picking the aide's pocket for the killer-for-hire's number and replacing it!)

If you don't know, though - better, if you're convinced Danny won't be in it ...

Wow. Just. Fuck. Wow.

My heart is still pounding and it's been ten minutes. I'm not joking, I can feel it. This is ridiculous.

I also love that Marc Warren also posted this tweet just after the episode finished:

Never trust a con man.

INDEED! I should've known! You -- youuuuuuu horrible little sneaky man, you!

(That said, I am so glad that he did tweet what he did. I think it actually enhanced my experience of the episode, having convinced myself he wasn't in it. I freaked out a lot more than I would have done otherwise - and actually, freaking out at TV is one of the things I enjoy, in a weird sort of way.)

I cannot believe that episode, though! It was clever, they did it without a (traditional) convincer, they got away with ten million and holy hell Emma/Mickey, the shippers will be happy! :D

Also, I loved the little nod-of-the-hat to early Hustle at the end, there, where they all walked out with bits of advice - I'm pretty sure that's a reference to/style thing stolen from the very first episode, actually. :D (And I do so love it when they look right at you and talk, it's one of my favourite things about the show, because it makes the viewer a part of the con, a part of the team. And that is great.)

Also: THE WHOLE GANG! THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN! THE GREAT EIGHT! ALL TOGETHER! All my dreams, actually coming true, in one epic conclusion.

Brilliant, wonderful, fabulous, lots of other adjectives. <3 <3 <3

And actually, because it was so good, I am ... OK ... about them ending the show there. I'm not happy - but there is no way they could top that. There is nowhere else to go from here. They've - well, they've won. And I'm happy for them.

I couldn't ask for a better send-off to a show I love, honestly.

Perfection. <3
