This pretty much sums up Right Now for me:
I still find each day too short for all the thoughts I want to think, all the walks I want to take, all the books I want to read, and all the friends I want to see.
~~ John Burroughs
That said, it's not all bad. :)
The biggest thing on my mind right now is the essay I have to hand in on the 1st September. (Haha, I'm going to feel a tiny bit like Harry Potter, heaving off to an academic place on that date! But probably not by train, and definitely not via Platform 9 3/4.) It's on 19th Century Children's Literature, and I've decided to focus on how the animal kingdom and the fantasy worlds seem to be intertwined.
I know (ish) what I want to say. The problem is, I haven't written a proper academic essay of 8,000 words in a year. More than that. It's daunting and I don't even know where to begin.
Probably a plan would be a good idea, so I'm going to try to re-read my texts, make some pertinent notes, and then plan. A plan will be my friend. *decisive nod*
Still. Stressful. And I have less than three weeks (realistically speaking) to get this done. *fear fear fear fear fear*
Happier notes, now. In the past few weeks, I've been out Geocaceing with
siraplowe and Chris a couple of times (one of which
ice_Elf joined us). If you haven't heard of Geocaching you're probably a normal, sane individual, well done have a
Wikipedia Article. (It calls it a sport. I find that quite amusing!)
siraplowe and Chris found their 100th Cache the week before last, so congratulations to them.
ice_elf and I were with them for that, and I think I technically found the cache. :) It was under a log, with a very surprised toad. The toad was, in fact, also shy - as soon as I said, "Awww, he's so sweet, let's take a picture!" he hopped off into the undergrowth. I'm fairly sure that we had 100% success that day, too! So it was an all 'round success.
Unlike the previous outing, which involved the three of us hacking through a swamp/jungle in a valley that wasn't even visible from the nearest road, and not even finding any caches down there. We found the others, but the detour down the valley was a bit of a disaster. :P But the fun kind!
Then, last week,
ice_elf and I had Barrowman Night. We watched 'The Empty Child', 'The Doctor Dances', 'Small Worlds', 'Out of Time', then broke for tea while listening to one of JB's concert DVDs. Then we had the heart-rending experience of listening to 'House of the Dead'. If you like Torchwood - even if you fell out with Children of Earth and/or Miracle Day - listen to 'House of the Dead'. It is so worth it. It will tear your heart out of your chest and stamp on it, but it is worth it. Excellent drama, excellent acting from everybody, and a good Torchwood-y storyline. :D
To recover, we watched 'The Making of Me' (I think? The documentary JB did about what makes people homosexual/heterosexual.). Turns out I have really masculine hands. XD
Then - then we had a treat. :P We watched Shark Attack 3: Megalodon. Such. A. Fun. Film. XD For all the wrong reasons! I love him to bits, but when the other actors make JB look like the best among them? That is a bad sign! XD The female lead was so wooden. The special effect were so crap. The storyline was just kind of stupid. But it was fun to watch!
Then we stuck the other concert DVD on, and settled down to plot another Torchwood fic collaboration. More on that at a later date ...
The day after, we congregated with
siraplowe and Chris for another Games Day. We played Countdown (at which we didn't suck for once!) and Pass the Bomb, then broke for lunch. (And so that
ice_elf and I could root through some ex-library books
siraplowe had acquired for us. Unfortunately, this resulted in returning to the kitchen to find a pan full of soup that resembled magma in heat, consistency and bubblyness, and had an odd, smoked smell and taste.
ice_elf and I ate it anyway; we'd foregone breakfast.)
After lunch, we were about to play Dread Pirate (my game offering) when
siraplowe got a phonecall from his mother asking him to rescue her from Morrissons. She'd locked her keys in the boot of her car. So we mounted a daring rescue: abandoned our game, phoned a taxi, and headed out. All four of us. When we arrived and handed over the spare keys, we then had to play the very exciting How Many People Can You Fit In A Micra? Game, because
siraplowe's mother had a friend with her. I have never been so crushed in my life. XD But it was only a short drive to the friend's house, and then we could relax for the journey back to
siraplowe's house.
We then played Dread Pirate.
ice_Elf was the definite winner, but we did give her a run for her money in the end! :P
Afterwards, it was time for Cranium, then fish and chips for tea, then Taboo - which is a lot of fun when you've got half a bottle of wine down you. :P (I think
ice_Elf and I won, but it was close!) There was just time for another quick, loud and violent game of Pass the Bomb before my Mum arrived to give everybody a lift home.
It was a fantastic day, but sadly we didn't get to play Pick Up Sticks. Next time!
Then, the other day, Mum and I made ginger scones and we had a lovely afternoon tea at home. I've been watching Quantum Leap somewhat obsessively because it's awesome and Sam is adorable and Al is sodamnbrave and I love it. I've been reading more (currently on Time Riders: The Eternal War by Alex Scarrow and Fool by Christopher Moore).
So, overall, it's been a good few weeks so far. Aside from the fact that I feel like I have about a hundred hula-hoops and the world is expecting me to keep all of them spinning all at once, and I don't feel like I have the ability or the time ...
Oh, well. At least I've written an update!
