Success (and failure)

Feb 06, 2009 20:16

So, today I went and had a go at the W.H.Smiths people because they failed me in the paper department. I'm sorry, but their 70GSM wide-ruled 100-sheet refil pads are cruddy in the extreme. One: the paper is rough and scratchy on my fountain pen. Two: the glue they use to hold the pages in is too damn good, which resulted in me attempted to rip my ( Read more... )

*hugs back*

It just annoys me, because it clearly is intended to be ripped out. If you don't want to rip it out, you get a notebook - not a refill pad. Grr! Oh, well. I have a nice one now. (Cheap-ass paper is apparently very good for me; my last set of pads were from Partners in some kind of sale, and they were awesome, too. XD)

Yes, I did. I can beta for you, but I'm not sure how long it's going to take me, because of this bleeding essay and the reading I've got to do ... If you can wait about a week, I'll probably-definately have it done by then, but if you want it sooner I'll completely understand if you want to give it to someone else. :) Sorry for not replying sooner.

Bah, stupid W.H.Smiths people! >(

OK, cool - expect it next Friday/Saturday-latest. :) Also, please do feel free to poke/remind me.

PS: Psst! If you come online, I might have something cracky for you. :P I'm just going to get some tea, but I'll be properly around in about five mins. ...

Hehehe ... don't worry. Habit is a powerful thing. :)

Yes, I'm home for reading week. (I'm coming home on the 13th and going back either 20th/21st, possibly 22nd.) Let me know when you're free, and we'll do stuff! :D

I have bought a pad much like the one you describe. Fortunately, the paper is not scratchy as such (although I did have some hideous paper in the exam, which rendered me practically unable to write on it without damaging my fountain pen). :-( It doesn't rip out of the book particularly well, but it isn't disasterous enough to take it back.

You did well to get a refund. People in shops tend to be very off when it comes to giving refunds, and I've no idea why. If the product is not fit for purpose (and paper that won't tear out is certainly not fit for purpose), then you are within your rights to demand a refund. It's not so much the cost of the thing - it's the principle of it, and hopefully if enough people complain, they might find out there's a malfunction with the machine and it's putting too much glue on.

*nods* It's annoying, isn't it? D: I had several pads of paper that didn't rip out spectatularly last year, but I think that was something to do with the fact that instead of ripping out down the long side they ripped across the top. (I don't get on well with pads that open vertically ...) Shame that it's not so bad that you can take it back. :( At least there's one blessing in that the paper isn't so bad to write on ...?

Yeah, it's irritating. "We can't take it back if you've used it" is a stupid excuse, because how am I supposed to know that pages won't rip out if I don't try to rip them out? >.>;; Anyway, yes - moral victory over the W.H.Smiths people! Woo! :D I bet they don't do anything about it, though. Ah, well - at least I got my money back and know to buy paper elsewhere *cough*Rymans/Partners*cough* next time. :P
