I'm addicted to these cakes shows. I just watched about ten episodes of "Ace of Cakes" and "Amazing Wedding Cakes," and I'm about to watch "Extreme Holiday Cakes." Emily and I have been discussing opening a bakery and...I don't know if opening a bakery is another one of those things (like being a writer) that a ton of people say they want to do, but it's something I hear a lot, so I feel pretty...standard saying it's something I would like to do. But it's something I would like to do. It's sort of a dream, working in a warm bakery with sugar all day, making things to surprise people and make them even happier on some of the best days of their lives. Or just help make someone's afternoon better with something pretty and delicious. It's got to be much more enjoyable than discussing the possible tax penalties of an early distribution from a Roth IRA...on a headset...in a cubicle. (On the plus side, my cubicle now includes a pink tinsel tree with lights. They shouldn't give us so much desk space if they don't want us to garishly decorate it.)
My mom makes semi-extreme cakes. She's really pretty good. She used to think it was funny to make winter-themed cakes for my birthday since it's in summer. When I was six or so, I had a joint birthday party with this other girl and my mom made a blue three tier cake with penguins and a white chocolate igloo and this blue pool of water made of sugar. The other girl had this sheet cake from the grocery store. That might be the summit of my love for my mother. I don't know if I've ever loved her more. When I get back to Texas, I'm going to ask her to teach me everything she knows.
Back in Plan A, I'm going to my audiologist today to get copies of my records. My mom found out that if my hearing loss is great than 55 decibels, I may qualify for free tuition to any state college in Texas. That would be exceptional. I have a hard time believing that my hearing loss is so profound that I'd deserve that. I mean, it's more annoying than like, a hindrance, but I looked it up on the internet and 55 decibels is moderate hearing lose, which is what the audiologist said I have, and I am DEFINITELY not in a position to turn down free tuition.
In other news, I've now mastered two types of spins on the pole. I'm really looking forward to the day when I can flip upside down and slide down the pole on one leg. It's nice to have a workout with a goal.
