Wow, it's been awhile since I updated. Oops.
So I have had a really kickass job all summer, and I work with some pretty damn kickass people, even if I won't admit it to them. Anyways, my job (I don't know if I can call it a job because I enjoyed it, but I will continue to use "job" and "work" for lack of better terms)was research on BioDiesel, it's pretty spiff, it's a fuel alternative made from unsaturated fatty acids being turned into saturated esters by use of a few processes. That has gone well, for the most part. Periodically, I took samples from the reaction to be tested in the Gas Chromotographer-Mass Spectrometer (GC-MS) for results to test the length needed for the reaction to be completed. Which, other than many people needing it at once, has caused very few problems. UNTIL TODAY. I hadn't gotten to use it today, then Binh ("bing") came into the lab "Are you Amber, well, bad news...."
"What!? What are you talking about?!"
"You're the Amber from the Mass Spec(GC-MS) list, right?"
"Ummmm yeah.... What happened?"
"The Mass Spec is broken, the results won't integrate."
"Oh my god. Why not?!!!!"
"I don't know, did you get results this morning?"
"No, I only ran a few blanks and a real sample, Todd was the last to use the program for results as far as I know..."
"Okay.... Hmmmm.... I'll get Raymond to check it out."
"Okay, thanks."
About an hour later, Binh came into the lab again.
"Ummm, about the Mass Spec...."
"Yes?!?!"
"It's a program thing."
"Ummmm, can it be fixed?"
"No, they threw away the software...."
"Are you fucking kidding me?!"
"No, they're going to have to call someone in from HP Support."
"Oh god, oh god, oh god, oh god, oh god. Goddammit!! Sorry, excuse my vulgarness. How long do you think it'll take?"
"Two, maybe three weeks...."
"Really?!?!?!?!? I'm screwed...."
Then he had to leave for his reactions.
But anyways, I have two deadlines. Monday for my poster; Tuesday for my five-page report. Each rides on the ability to get Mass-Spec results I had to start up tomorrow. In other words, I'm screwed royally.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

Okay, now that I've gotten that off my chest, better news. I have been hired to work during the school year by a different professor, I'm continuing to work at Western *happy dance*!!!! Except, instead of BioDiesel, I'll be working on pharmaceutical/neuro- chemistry. This is basically my dream job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Both of the professors think I have a bright future ahead, so they're helping me decide on college, even though they've stressed me out about it. Every time they mention "The list," I bury my head in my hands and hyperventilate, lol. I know, melodrama.... I think I misspelled that, but I care not.
Apparently I'm semi-smart, because the one undergrad that has been working in the same lab as I have, asked me what I was going to do in the other lab (He's an REU student, senior from Kalamazoo College) and he was sort of impressed about what I knew/understood about the organic chemistry. It made me feel good, what can I say, I'm a compliment whore.

Oh, and I'm not allowed to have caffiene, lol, I'm such a spaz when I drink it. Examples: I hit my head on a door handle; I fell down when the professor came up from behind me and I didn't hear him; I slipped and about broke my right knee (HUGE bruise); and I was talking to another SEED (the program I work in for the summer) student and I was just generally a spaz.
