I bought me a music CD today. Mind you, I could have bought this album over TWENTY FIVE YEARS AGO if I were alive and old enough to buy music back then, but I wasn't, so I didn't. Here are the stats on the CD I bought:
Title: The Kick Inside
Artist: Kate Bush
Year: 1978
Price: AU$12.99
Store of purchase: IN 2 MUSIC @ Macarthur Square
Her "best of" album, titled "The Whole Story", was AU$30.99. Since I'd never heard a Kate Bush song before today, I wasn't about to spend that much money on an album full of songs no less than 18 years old. That would have been pure insanity. I happened to have been sane today. Well most of the day.
Ooh, freaky part of the story! There I was, browsing through Sanity for anything Kate Bush, when I get an SMS from the very woman who is responsible for my obsession to find out who Kate Bush is and what her music sounds like -
earthlydelites! Yes that's right, my beautiful wifey #2 sent me a message while I had Kate Bush on the mind. No doubt she also had Kate Bush on the mind, so perhaps that's what possessed her to message me. We may never know.
Back to the story (it's not hard to find...) I asked the IN 2 MUSIC girl behind the counter if I could listen to "The Whole Story", and she agreed. So I'm there listening to the first track when all of a sudden, I realise I knew the song!!! And I was thinking, "OMFG! I had NO idea this was Kate Bush!!!" (I didn't know it by title OR artist - it's "Wuthering Heights".) Growing up in the 80s, I heard lots of 60s, 70s and of course the developing 80s. I was most pleased to have recognised a song on this album :D
None of the other songs on "The Whole Story" rang any bells, so I had to listen carefully to determine if I could justify buying the album for one or maybe two songs. I couldn't, so I ended up getting "The Kick Inside", which has "Wuthering Heights" on it. I like Kate Bush's music - it's different - and although I could easily listen to it as background or foreground music, I have to be honest and say it doesn't excite me like other music can. (earthlydelites, please don't shoot! I'm just being honest, baby :o) I'd be happy to listen to every Kate Bush song ever created. I really like "Wuthering Heights", and I believe if an artist can produce one great song, they can produce many. Most songs just need to hit a certain spot with me, being that I'm an emotional kind of guy. It's not all about the music - the lyrics can mean a lot! I wonder if Kate's still alive and if so, will she make any more music. Hmm...
For a few months now, I've been seeing Kate Bush songs listed in the LJ entries of earthlydelites, but never had a clue who Kate Bush was or what any of the listed tracks sounded like. This is where my current obsession started. I needed to know. Knowledge is power. Power is what I need to be able to listen to a CD :P
Thanx LiveJournal for housing the journal entries of earthlydelites! My thanx, love and thoughts of kinky sex on Sundays go out to earthlydelites for being so obsessed with an artist from the 70s/80s, I felt compelled to go and buy one of her albums! :D
The next music CD review is likely to happen... never. But maybe it will. I don't buy music very often. And no, I don't download it either - it's usually crap quality off the 'net. I make my own MP3s :o)
