Early in the afternoon, she awoke to a rumbling stomach. Beside her lay her beloved. I'll let him sleep, she thought, and quietly went about her business. Sitting by the window, silently catching up on some reading while quietening her tummy which resembled the raging storm outside.
Soon, her beloved awoke. After a few minutes of cuddles, giggles and conversation, he left the bed and returned with food.
"'I'm hungry" the little princess said. Noting that, her beloved shared some food with her. The fog of sleep was slowly dissipating and realities of everyday life started to set in.
He sat in front of his lifeline to the outside world. She watched in vain as she knew what was about to happen. Music filled the room as her world of two multiplied within seconds. Tip-tapping sounds merged in with the music as her beloved was no longer hers alone. Quiet she sat, still hungry.
She tried to forget the world, forget her hunger, forget that she was now left to fend for herself. But soon enough, she grew bored and restless. "This is ridiculous" she thought to herself. "If i came here to be with him, I shouldn't be alone while he entertains himself. I want to spend time with my beloved. I want my world of two".
And so, she spoke up. "I'm bored and hungry". "I want to spend time with you and not watch you read or IM with others" .
The moment those words escaped her lips, she saw a glimpse of something there. Annoyance? Guilt? But she shrugged it off.
"Call him" her beloved said. She just glared at him. "I'm trying to arrange something so that we can go out", he patiently explain.
So she did. She called and plans were made.
But lo and behold, he asked the fated question, "What time are you leaving tonight?". In irritance and dissapointment she replied "Soon". And without noting the sadness in her voice, he merely replied "Shall I send you home now then?"
With a heavy heart and as much resolution as she could muster, she replied him "Fine. Send me home then, fine"
On the way back to her own quiet world, she pondered. Perhaps she was too hasty. Perhaps she misread him. So she spoke. "I'm still hungry"
But with great annoyance he told her "I've already turned off in your direction. What do you want me to do?!"
And so, with that, she kept quiet, held back her tears and tried to let it go. But that one little pout escaped her.
When they finally arrived at their destination, he asked what was wrong. "Nothing" came the reply. She didn't want to make things worse by putting blame. But her beloved prodded her. And she told him. Defenses came up, an argument ensued.
Soon enough, she stepped out in silence and she unlocked the doors to her solitary world. Her first tear fell the moment she turned her back. And that was followed by more. And then she sat, while the tip-tapping of her fingers disrupted the silence in her room, punctuated by occasional sniffs.
Her beloved made contact awhile after. "What's wrong with you", he enquired. "Nothing" was again, her reply. Resigned, he asked his love "Would you like some food?" But she was a stubborn one. And although she would have love to say yes, the damage was done and "No" came her response. "Are you sure?" he repeatedly asked. But everytime he asked her, the response was the same.
So there we have it, misunderstanding in the first degree. She probably misread her beloved in so many parts, and he probably misunderstood her in so many ways.
Alas, it is a continuous cycle for the little princess and her beloved. A bit of displeasure, one little pout and an array of problems could arise.
Solutions anyone?
