Fourteen and a half years ago I gained a small grey shadow. This morning she left me.
She was with me through everything over the last 14 years, the good bits and the bad bits. She was loyal, extremely stubborn and could be very naughty when she chose (at 11 weeks old she destroyed the boot of my car having a hissy fit at being left in there, by the age of 2 she'd graduated to destroying things - like sofas - if she didn't get her own way). She was a terrible theif and had a life long chocolate addiction. If you thought you'd put something out of reach the rule was always move it higher if she was around.
Karli was for me so many first experiences..
My first pedigree dog
My first show dog
The first dog I'd ever bred a litter from (ok, and the second too)
The mother of the first champions I'd bred
She never did brilliantly well in the show ring as a youngster, but when she became a vetran she did brilliantly, qualifying and getting to the finals for the North of England Golden Oldie Competition and winning vetran classes till she retired at 11.
She ruled the rest of the dogs - from the small pack I had in Preston where she could get Morgan to reach things on the kitchen sides she couldn't reach, in Wigan where there where she lived with a larger pack, she never fought, never even growled, the others all respected the fact that she was in charge, and what she said was law. For the last eighteen months it's just been her and the three spitz, who all adored her and are as lost as I am without her.
Yesterday she was bouncing around like a loon with the others, playing with Kammi and Gretchen, barking at me to get her dinner faster, she even won the sausage race last night as she was the first into bed. This morning when I got up she'd had a stroke overnight and I knew her time had come. She was helped accross the bridge by the vets.shortly after 9 this morning.
I hope she meets up with Morgan on the other side.
Sleep well Karli girl.
I miss you.
