Title: anticlimax For: fourcoldpaws Pairing/Focus: CNU/Gongchan/Baro Rating: PG Word Count: 2500 Summary: The world does not end with a bang. Notes/Warnings: implied death
WAILS. this is like five of my favorite things all rolled up in one and it's so lovely but it's also so SAD and i'm like rolling around in the bittersweetness of it all. i love the idea of them going out to see the world just when it's ending, simply because there's no reason to just sit around and wait. and also that they're heading up towards the continent, though they might not make it very far across it. it's nice how the reasons behind the apocalypse and the ways in which it happens are so vague, and that it is drawn out. you described those parts very nicely ;; and also how you can see the signs of it even in the characters, in the coughing and the tiredness and the ashy faces, as if they're just gonna drop dead one day. and maybe that's what the world is doing as well, just suddenly dropping dead without much reason, only slower.
i'm so fond of the relationship between the three of them, the details and small interactions, like chanshik sleeping in the middle with the other two curled up around him, and dongwoo waking him with pokes and kisses, and the skinny dipping part. how they keep to each other, because that's all they've got when everything else is going down. i am terribly fond of that trope tbh, and you write it well. your style is simple yet inventive, and i like that. you're also handling the apocalypse theme very well, it hurts in all the right places and frankly the icing on the cake would have been them actually dying together, just drifting away together in the backseat of that car, but tbh i think it's a way better choice to just let them keep on driving.
tysm for writing this ;; it was very nice though it broke my heart and all ;;
wait, are you saying that chanshik died??!! lol i didn't read it like that at all, but now that you say it it sort of makes sense.
ia i like the ending too, that it is open-ended (but also close-ended in a way, since it's so sinister hah) and that they just keep on driving. but now i can't help thinking what they did with chanshik? did they just throw him out? a part of me thinks they would have at least buried him or something but another part thinks they wouldn't. what's the point, right?
gosh you really made me see this in a different light lol ;;

I liked the ending, it had that feel of like an untied thread still hanging there
and like just how they carry on and drive, it's also got that sinister 1 down 2 to go feel, you know?
although this is all entirely my personal opinion, I love open-ended endings

especially because in the last couple lines, they mention Chanshik's hand being cold,
which usually is a sign of death :(
