a couple of nights ago my kid brother, zack, decided to take his friend's mom's brand new suv to take his other friend home.. which was only 6-7 blocks away. my cousin, andrew, was with him. and he suggested that they take a back road (less travelled = fewer cops) on the way home.

zack wasn't really used to how the suv handled, and he took a curve/hill too fast and the car flipped 14 times and ejected both zack and andrew through the windows. andrew picked up zack out of the middle of the road and put him in the grass to make sure no one would run over him..... he thought zack was dead.

the car... clumps of his hair were still stuck in the window frame

zack's wrist after being stitched up

but he wasn't... he just banged up his wrist pretty severely... he was covered in blood though. his pants, his shirt, his coat, his face... i've never been so scared in my life. i had no idea what kind of internal injuries he had.. and he kept complaining about how bad his back was hurting. i was on the verge of tears for 8 hours straight. he is like my kid.. since my parents divorced when he was 8.

a few dozen stitches and an entire night in the emergency room and i drove zack back home.. safe and sound... and we made pancakes. woo.

i have a weird feeling that if he weren't wearing dawn's super puffy, insulated coat that she loaned me last winter that his injuries might have been much worse.
