Good afternoon b0st0n!
"Why don't you just get a job?!"
Striking the right balance with potential employers is tricky. Here... I really don't know if what I am experiencing is "normal" - I'm over from the UK, and have been entirely up-front about that. Despite being offered in-person interviews I'm having difficulty getting organizations to actually arrange them. In fact, I am having trouble getting in touch with the organizations at all. There is quite a bit of phone-tag going on, and I am not sure how much is too much to call / email.
Is this only to be expected? I don't want to just sit back and wait for them nor be disrespectful of their recruitment processes. Is there an unwritted rule about how this is done? Anyone fancy writing it for me in a comment?
In case it matters, I'm director/executive level and a specialist in my field (socio-economic development / third sector). I want to work here so as to create more jobs, not take one from an American. It's... frustrating. I have already spoken to an excellent immigration lawyer, and am lucky enough to have some unusually quick and easy visa options. Hearing about how many people are looking for work, how many organizations need more money to create said jobs, and how many companies are looking for ways to imporve their standing... agh! Lemmie help already!
Oh, and I am here completely legally, and am job-hunting (etc) legally.
