Heres a little something I was trying to write for an introduction to a Dungeons and Dragons campaign....

The Beginning

No one knows how their world, Gidmar, has come to be, but most people believe in the creators, Chaos and Calm.

Two entities named Chaos and Calm created the world from the empty void of space and time. Calm covered the world in water, a perfect shimmering peace, and filled the water with an array of creatures. Chaos rose mountains, hills, valleys, and deep trenches to give the world blemishes. Calm sculpted rock people, Dwarves, to make the mountains beautiful.

Calm sprouted forests to beautify the land. Chaos designed horrible creatures, now called Orcs, to rip and tear into the forests. Calm gave birth to the Elves, wise and cunning, protectors of the forest. Chaos spewed forth the elements, fire and lightning and wind, to ravage the world. Calm parented Humans able to adapt to the elements. Chaos created magic and Calm tied that magic to Dragons, eternal creatures with many, many powers, most of which are still unknown of today. With their last remaining energy Calm and Chaos merged into Conscious and, infusing itself into Gadmir, gave life to its inhabitants.

Humans, nomadic hunters at the time, built a society based on rank in which they choose a leader who showed the best hunting prowess. They called him their Patriarch. They followed their prey throughout the world. Throughout their travels they learned the hard way about the Orcs and feared them. The Patriarch suggested they started building fortresses by the streams and rivers. Some of them held up, while others were raided by the Orc armies. Trading routes and hunting outfits would not always return. The first expedition teams returned with fabulous stories of boulders that touched the sky and rivers you could not see across. The Patriarch led a band of men into the mountains to learn more of its mystery.

Anyone who set foot upon the mountains was being watched. The dwarves were everywhere. They first made contact with man when he approached their hidden doors. It was a tense few seconds until they showed little interest in attacking. Only then did the dwarves show them to their halls. They showed them metallurgy, stone carving, and beer. The Dwarf king suggested a few men go back with the Humans and help them forge weapons to protect against the Orcs.
