To Mr. Wolfenbarger

He probably wouldn't have remembered me. I never really stood out in class and I never talked to him out of class. But Mr. Wolfenbarger has come to be one of my favorite teachers in highschool and ever. I would never have discovered anthropology without him. His class was so much fun and it taught me countless of interesting things. Mr. Wolfenbarger inspired me to pursue anthropology in college or "big school" as he called it. And honestly, I kinda wanted to be like him. He was funny, smart, so carefree, and always so damn sarcastic.

Anyways, I've been wanting to drop by Bishop and say hi to old teachers including him. I wanted to tell him how I'm taking Anthropology at UCLA now because of him. I just wished I had done that. About a month ago, I read from the Bishop newsletter that he was taking time off for chemotherapy, but that he planned on getting back to his class soon after. I was planning to write a letter to him, but I kept putting it off thinking I had time.

Well, I just wanted to write how Mr. Wolfenbarger inspired me since I never got to tell him personally. Aside from everything he's taught me, I will never forget his quirky personality, his bleach blonde curly hair and always tanned skin. Or his oddly small stature while carrying a huge beer-belly. I'll always remember him wearing one of those buttoned down hawaiian shirt in the middle of winter. And of course, his stories of his crazy youth in the sixties. He was definitely a character to remember.

Thank you Mr. Wolfenbarger. I hope you rest in peace.
