EVACUATE! Or not...

We've been living in Atlanta with Mary for almost a month now. I'm signed up as a volunteer at the aquarium, though I'm still waiting for my background check to clear. Phil and I have both applied for multiple jobs and we're in the "waiting for them to get back to us" stage. Mary and I have been training at the pool for a few days, but other than that, Phil and I are pretty much bumming around the apartment.

About 30 minutes ago, we were just sitting around (actually I think Phil was dozing off) when suddenly there was this loud voice saying "ATTENTION! ATTENTION! AN EMERGENCY HAS BEEN REPORTED! PLEASE WALK TO THE NEAREST EXIT AND TO THE MAIN FLOOR! DO NOT USE THE ELEVATORS" So yea. Bit of a panic.

I guess the voice scared the cats more than it scared us. It took us a good 5 minutes to get them out from under the bed. Hans came relatively easily, but Link did NOT wanna let go of that carpet! I tried grabbing his tail and dragging him out as I had done with Hans, but Link wouldn't have it. I got his tail, but he also got a death grip on the carpet and wasn't budging. He's pretty strong for the runt of the litter! I felt so bad because with how hard we were struggling against each other, I was sure I was going to hurt him. I finally pulled him back enough to grab his leg, and then I had enough leverage to pull him out. He was fighting the whole way, so we decided that he should be in the carrier. I opened the carrier and scooped out a fairly calm and cooperative Hans and Phil wrestled Link in.

When we got out into the hallway, they both got rather vocal. They are strictly house cats, so the hallway was very strange and foreign to them. Just as Phil was locking the door behind us, the woman next door came out of the elevator and told us that it was a false alarm. The system just goes off every now and then. Keeps people on their toes, at least.

Oh were the boys happy to get back in the apartment!
