A Bit of Rough by Laura Baumbach

.

Architect James Justin impulsively lets himself be picked up in a biker bar by seductive hunk Bram Lord for a one nightstand that turns into something bigger. The physically impressive, forceful stranger mets, matches and exceeds James' sexual fantasies, but can shy, uncertain James be everything the strongly committed Bram wants?

.
Like OMGuh, this has the steamiest, hottest, mmmmmmmmphiest love scenes--yes, I do mean love scenes. The two hit it off right away in the sexiest of manners. There is a bit of attempted non-con, from which the "built like a brick shithouse" hero saves our cute, bookish protagonist. There is a smidgen of angst due to James' insecurity, but it gets resolved pretty quickly. Bram is powerful, sexy, and most importantly in love with James, and it really shows.

More by Sloan Parker

.
For fifteen years Luke Moore has lived by three rules: stay off his father's radar, never spend more than a single night with any man, and never fall in love again. But one night of explosive sex and two men whom he can’t get out of his head have Luke breaking them all. Richard and Matthew push him past all his boundaries-both sexually and personally-and now he’s no longer hiding from his senator father; he’s taking him on. And he isn’t just falling for one man; he’s falling for two. If you're going to break the rules, might as well break them big.

.
This was a pretty good book, all around. There's angst, and there are issues--and everyone has issues. That's why this book seems realistic to me. It's not wham-bam-thank-you...sir! Emotions are dealt with, and everyone is completely on equal standing, an especially important factor when we're reading about a threesome.

Bad Boyfriend by K.A. Mitchell

After Eli Wright came out, his parents threw him out. In the five years since, he’s made his own way, lived by his own rules, determined to never change himself-not for anyone. He’s not against finding Mr. Right, but Mr. Right Now will do just fine.

Quinn Maloney’s reward for ten years of faithfully keeping his closeted boyfriend’s secrets? A hell of a wake-up call to go with his morning coffee. Not only did Peter have affairs, he went straight to marry his pregnant girlfriend-and Quinn was to never reveal their history.

With the baby’s baptism looming and Quinn expected to put on a polite front, he decides he’s had enough of playing the peacekeeper. One wink from a much younger, eyeliner-wearing guy in a bar, and Quinn’s found a perfectly outrageous date for the occasion.

The date goes better than he ever imagined. And so much worse, as Eli convinces everyone they’re madly in love. That wasn’t part of the plan, but the more Quinn learns about the man behind the makeup, the more he wishes it was true.

I liked this because it was sexy, hot, and it had a good, believable story. It wasn't just sex sex sex, but an actual story with a plot. But the light BDSM was :D

Worth by Adrienne Wilder

Give us your poor, your unwanted, your criminals... that’s the unofficial motto of Atlanta’s Gray Zone, the no man’s land between the city and the Dens of the Kin-the dragons. Between Liam, the two brothers he’s cared for most of his life, and their abusive stepfather, they account for all three categories.

Liam was fifteen when he made the arrangement: as long as he let his stepfather sell his body, his brothers would be safe. Scarred inside and out from years of horrific abuse, Liam is stunned when Jericho, a Lesser-Bred-a dragon’s mixed-blood offspring-makes a pass at him, and he is helpless to resist.

Then Liam’s stepfather welshes on their deal and sells Liam’s brother into the trade, and once again Liam resolves to do anything to save him, even get involved in a million-dollar kidnapping scheme that could get him killed. But that’s not his plan. Now that he has Jericho, Liam knows his life is worth fighting for.

I liked this a lot, but the ending was rushed. The first half of the book was amazing, and realistic. I loved how much Liam cares for his little brothers--and we never do find out what the diagnosis was for his younger brother. Does this one have a sequel!? Sci fi, but it still mentions Walmart and Salvation Army.

Zero at the Bone by Jane Seville

.
After witnessing a mob hit, surgeon Jack Francisco is put into protective custody to keep him safe until he can testify. A hitman known only as D is blackmailed into killing Jack, but when he tracks him down, his weary conscience won't allow him to murder an innocent man. Finding in each other an unlikely ally, Jack and D are soon on the run from shadowy enemies. Forced to work together to survive, the two men forge a bond that ripens into unexpected passion. Jack sees the wounded soul beneath D's cold, detached exterior, and D finds in Jack the person who can help him reclaim the man he once was. As the day of Jack's testimony approaches, he and D find themselves not only fighting for their lives... but also fighting for their future. A future together.

I really liked this book for a number of reasons. Plot is one of them. Depth and character development, another. We also see the normal knots and tangles of a relationship that makes it realistic--this book was realistic in that it wasn't overly fluffy, but it wasn't gritty. It is the perfect blend of romance and falling in love, and dealing with issues that life brings together. Realistic.

Bastet by T.A. Chase

.

Kellan Largent is a grad student at Harvard. His thesis is on ancient Egyptian religious cults. While immersed in his research, he comes across an obscure reference to the Earth Warrior cult. Little does he know that one sentence in a dusty, tattered book will engulf him in a battle between good and evil. A battle that could be the end of the world as he knows it.

The stray cat wandering the streets around Kellan’s house is more than an abandoned feline. Bastet has roamed the earth from the days when Egypt was young. He’s watched the pharaohs rise and fall, new gods come and go. His purpose, however, has remained the same-protect the earth at all costs and keep the secrets of the Earth Warriors from regular mortals. He’s sent to keep Kellan Largent from finding out the truth about the cult, but also to keep the unsuspecting college student alive.

One man will do anything for the spell that created the Warriors. He wants immortality, and killing Kellan for the secret is just the beginning of the trouble he’ll cause to get what he wants.

.
This book's premise was fun, and the language was entertaining (not riddled with errors)--but the language was a bit mushy and so was the way the two fell in love *sigh* I did like it b/c it has the sci-fi aspect!

Precious_Boy by K.Z. Snow

.

It was just an amateur porn video, like thousands of others on the Internet. Like hundreds Jonathan Wright had seen and hundreds more he'd ignored. He hadn't intended to watch it, but he gives in to his curiosity. When he sees the lithe, blond young man who's doing naughty things with a bearish, older man, he's seduced and feels like a pervert afterward. The youth in the video seems a little too young, despite the fact he runs his own escort service. Worse yet, Jon gets the nagging feeling he's seen "Justin Time," aka precious_boy, before. When Jon takes a chance and meets Justin in a Chicago hotel room, Jon's past, present, and possibly his future begin to converge in alarming and confusing ways. There's no escaping the resulting dilemma: Jon must decide just how involved he wants to get with a sweet kid whose life has turned sour--a decision made more complex by a surprising connection to a lover from Jon's past.

I've gotta say that I loved the beginning of the book and the end is a total HEA. The plot is interesting, and some of the things the protagonists say stick with me. Each is going through something similar, but it's not obvious until one of the MC says it. Then it's an Aha!Moment, and it just made me fall in love with the characters just a bit more. I also really liked that Jon didn't experience insta!love, and also that seduction and sex don't take over on their first meeting. This makes their relationship, and the story, more realistic to me. And in the end, the two must make decisions on their own about whether or not they want to be with each other.

Visible Friend by K.Z. Snow

.

Christopher Borgasian has spent the last seven months painstakingly breaking up with a lover he’s adored for three years: heroin. Now he’s trying to make it on his own-without the drugs, without the family that rejected him for being gay, and, seemingly, without a friend in the world.

The night before Chris leaves a sober-living facility to pursue his uncertain future, a stranger named Denny shows up in his room. From then on, Denny returns whenever Chris needs him the most, always vanishing as mysteriously as he appears. Chris desperately needs emotional and physical intimacy, but who is Denny, really? And can Chris believe in him when it also means believing in unconditional love?
.
This book is so poignant, so beautiful. It's sad, but not heartbreaking. It's happy, but not exceedingly. The characters are so visceral, and the story is so believable. Denny's character development amazed me, and the epilogue just cinched it. This story is amazing. The only regret I have is skimming over it due to the lateness of night.

Amazing. Quirky. Lovable. Just so so so awesome. If only more m/m books had this sort of romance.

Truth in the Dark by Amy Lane

.

"I am not beautiful..."

Knife's entire existence has been as twisted as his flesh and his face. The only thing beautiful in his life is his sister. When Gwennie is obliged to turn a suitor down because she fears to leave her brother to the brutality of their village, Knife is desperate for anything to ensure her happiness.

Her suitor's cousin offers him a way out, but it won't be easy. Aerie-Smith has been cursed to walk upright in the form of a beast, and his beloved village suffers from the same spell. Aerie-Smith offers Gwen a trousseau and some hope, if only Knife will keep him company on his island for the span of a year and perform one "regrettable task" at year's end.

Knife is unprepared for the form the island's curse takes on his own misshapen body. In one moment of magic, he is given the body of his dreams-and he discovers that where flesh meets spirit and appearance meet reality, sometimes the only place to find truth is in the darkness of a lover's arms.

It's Amy Lane--there's nothing else for me to say. I like this book!

The Island by Lisa Henry

Shaw is in Fiji to sell a stolen painting to the crime boss, Vornis. It will be the deal of a lifetime, if Shaw can pull it off. But then Vornis parades his latest toy around in front of him-a captured DEA agent whose time is running out. It’s none of Shaw’s business, and it doesn’t matter that under any other circumstances Lee would be exactly Shaw’s type: he’s young, he’s hot, and he might even have a personality if they hadn’t beaten it out of him. Too bad there’s no way Lee is getting off the island. Too bad there’s nothing Shaw can do for him. And too bad there are some lines that even Shaw won’t cross.

Keeping his hands off Lee proves harder than he thinks, but Shaw’s not stupid enough to fall for the tortured captive of a dangerous crime boss, is he? If he did, it wouldn’t be just his job he would be risking-it would be his life.

Shit, this book... This book.

By His Rules by J.A. Rock

Aiden Cole can be anything men want-naughty schoolboy, palace slave, virgin twink, or slutty secretary. He’s a gifted actor with a gorgeous body who gives legendary head. Aiden could have his pick of any Top in the local leather bar, but is drawn to Scott Runge-a cruel, sexy Dom who pushes Aiden to his limits, allowing Aiden to experience the excitement and danger of the BDSM lifestyle to a degree he never has before. But when Scott goes too far, injuring Aiden, Aiden withdraws from the BDSM scene completely. Until he meets Keaton Hughes.

Keaton’s looking for something he can’t find in any dungeon: A domestic discipline relationship, in which he can provide his partner with guidance, support, and loving discipline. When Keaton takes Aiden in after Aiden’s traumatic encounter with Scott, he vows not to pursue any sort of relationship with the troubled sub. But as Aiden struggles to overcome the damage Scott has done and get his life back on track, Keaton’s rules might be just what he needs.

Dude, this is just really good. It's not something I'd read normally (BDSM), but it was tastefully, tactfully, and realistically done. The first half of the book is about Scott abusing Aiden, but the second half is Aiden discovering what a domestic discipline-relationship is. Keaton is all kinds of wonderful, and so very patient. It was a good book.

Hell  (Heaven Sent #3) by Jet Mykles

.
Heaven Sent gets a hell of new keyboardist with a name to match. Hell Witting is an amazing musician and proves to be the answer to a sound that the band was missing. With lavender hair and big violet eyes, he captivates Brent Rose from the start, and not just with his music. When Hell makes his interest in Brent all too obvious, Brent is unprepared and unable to stay away. So, fine, if they just keep it at sex, everything will be all right...
.
This has so much more than sex. There's actually a bit of depth to each of the characters, which I was pleasantly surprised about. Brent is self-deprecating, and can't believe that anyone can love him. Who the top/bottom were also surprised me :)
.
.
Fate (Heaven Sent #4)

.
Darien's best friends are the other guys in the rock band Heaven Sent. The three--now four--of them are closer than brothers to him and he's happy that they've all found their life mates. He doesn't at all mind that each of those life mates are men. He's never been particularly interested in men before, but after a short, failed marriage, he's willing to open himself up to new possibilities. Especially if one of those possibilities is the gorgeous lawyer who handled his divorce, Christopher Faith.
.
Ahh, this one was good, too!

.The Missing Butterfly by Megan Derr

.
Cassidy Monarch had dreams to sing, to be famous, to tour the world at the head of his own rock band. Then his parents were killed in a tragic accident, leaving him to raise his two siblings. Determined to hold on to what remained of his family, Cassidy settled into an ordinary life, his dreams of fame reduced to occasional nights of singing at karaoke dives. But his careful, ordinary life began to fray with his new job, and the beautiful, charming boss who reminds him of all the things he tried to stop wanting.

Malcolm Osborne is a classic rags to riches story, a foster child who wound up with the perfect family and more money than he knows what to do with. He's wealthy, beautiful, successful, and completely miserable. Then he hires a new worker for his office, a young, hard-working man with a sadness in his eyes that Malcolm aches to banish, hoping that in doing so he will be rid of his own loneliness as well.
.
Really liked. Cassidy is shy, timid, and afraid he'll lose his job, but outside of his boring office worker routine, he sings karaoke, and he misses singing. In comes Malcolm to save the day like an errant knight, or like prince charming. hehe HEA!!!

Dance in the Dark (DwtD book 2) by Megan Derr

.
At the age of nine, Johnnie lost everything. A quiet, normal child, his life forever changed when his family was attacked by a blood-crazed vampire, leaving his parents dead and Johnnie an orphan.

Now grown, he is the cold, proud, beautiful-but very human-son of the Dracula Desrosiers, who took him in after the tragedy that befell Johnnie's parents. Constantly kept apart for being human, Johnnie chooses to bury himself in the two things he most loves-books and mysteries.

Then he is summoned by a friend to solve a simple mystery involving a pair of Cinderella slippers, and in putting one mystery to rest Johnnie only succeeds in waking several more...
.

OMG this is just I HAVE NO WORDS JUST READ IT. This amazing author combines A LOT of fairy tales into one (Cinderella at the beginning, a reference to Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Grimm omg omg omg). And the main Johnnie is like Sherlockish! I was a bit disappointed that sexy times took a back seat, the story and plot are intricate, but at the same time, easy to follow.
