Well, I had a great time last week. Thank you again Pokewhore! Between seeing Aida and Pirates (again) and swimming (for five miutes!) and Sara getting a kick out of my joke book, much fun was had by all.
I don't know about this week. I need to take my dad to the hospital this afternoon for more tests. The doctors have finally noticed that the drugs are crappy and are taking him off of it. I don't know if we'll be going to Maine this year. It seems that my dad wants to, but my mom keeps insisting not to. I know what will happen: my dad will say he's fine and the night we get up there he'll be horrible so we'll have to go back home and mom will be angry for him dragging us up there. Oy.
So now I do the meme stolen from meerkitty868.
Name 10 of your favorite Broadway shows. (In no real particular order)
01. Sweeney Todd
02. Into the Woods
03. Bat Boy
04. The Producers
05. Assassins
06. Les Miserables
07. The Phantom of the Opera
08. Rent
09. Little Shop of Horrors
10. Wicked (somehow, depsite all my bitching about how the novel is a hundred times better, this show has a hold on me)
Have you ever seen these shows live? If so, where?
01. *sigh* only on the tour DVD. ARGH!
02. The DVD and at a community theater.
03. Yes, at Salem State College
04. The tour at Colonial Theater.
05. No, dangnabit!
06. On Broadway, a week before it closed, and I was in it at school!
07. Twice, touring company both times.
08. On Broadway!
09. At Winthrop Playmakers (very good production)
10. Indeed, on Broadway.
What's your favorite song from 2?
Very very very tough, but I'll have to go with Giants in the Sky because I'm always in the mood to listen to it.
Who's your favorite character from 4?
Roger and Carmen. I'm with meerkitty in saying that they count as one character!
What's your favorite scene from 6?
Confrontation, bitches! SO pissed it was cut in the school edition *grrs*
What's your favorite lyric from 8?
"How can you connect in an age where strangers, landlords, lovers, your own blood cells betray?"
From 10, which character are you most like?
Eh . . . I'd say Elphaba, but I relate a lot more to her in the novel where she's all "I like being labeled a witch because it gives me an excuse to be unconventional" rather than the musical's "I wish I was pretty and not green!" Oy.
Can you quote every line from 1?
Most of them!
How many times have you seen 3?
Sadly only once. I want to be involved in this show more than any other, even going so far as to direct it (which I would never want to direct another musical)
If you could be anyone from 5, who would it be? Why?
Because I always want to play a dude, John Wilkes Booth, bitches! He gets the best song in the show and he has this great image associated with him that the other asassins lack due to historical obscurity (though I bet Guiteau would be really fun to play).
What's your favorite song from 7?
Without question, Point of No Return. It's all about the sex!
What's your favorite quote from 9?
Seymour: The Audrey Two is not a healthy girl!
Mushnik: Strictly between us - neither is the Audrey One.
Out of all these plays, which one is your absolute favorite?
Sweet Wounded Jesus, I love them all, but I'll have to go with Bat Boy (Sweeney is VERY close though).
Who's the best Broadway actor?
THE best? Oy! There's so many out there how can there be one? I'll just list my top favorites of Micheal Cerveris, Nathan Lane, Jerry Orbach, Sean McCourt and Norbert Leo Butz.
Who's the best Broadway actress?
Once again, THE best? My personal favorites are Bernadette Peters, Patti Lupone, Sherie Renee Scott and Ana Gasteyer.
What's the best musical they turned into a movie?
Hmmm, as far as the best goes I don't know, but I'd say that best stage-to-screen faithful transition would be Little Shop of Horrors (except for the ending), best reinterpration to a movie would be Cabaret, and most improved over the show would be Reefer Madness (the show had some major flaws which the movie almost entirely did away with).
Is there a musical you don't like?
Yes, there are a few actually. You don't like every movie or TV show, right? IT's the same thing.
If so, which one? Why?
Which one? Well, there's quite a few. Grease would probably be my most hated contender as I think it is VASTLY overrated, and having to do it my senior year in high school was overall a rather annoying experience.
Do you think the movie versions are better, or the original Broadway musicals?
ALWAYS the original. I'm not saying that all movie adaptions of musicals suck, but most of them kind of miss what made a show so special. There are only a few that I conisder really good, and most of those weren't done recently.
This or That:
The Producers or Rent?
Tough choice, but I slightly prefer the Producers because the humor never gets old for me.
Wicked or Chicago?
Oh Jeebus, must I? I like both!
Fiddler on the Roof or Oklahoma?
Fiddler all the way!
Thoroughly Modern Millie or 42nd Street?
I'm honestly not that familiar with either as generally "tap dancing!" is not something that draws me to a show.
Hairspray or Grease?
Hairspray all the way!
