I don't think I've ever been at a point in a story where I had to be like (not literally, but figuratively), "Okay, so Patrick-is-a-girl (aka Shannon) meets Anna, because hello Anna was at least awesome by association, and are they BFF or fucking or both or does Anna come on to Shannon and then awkward rejection followed by BFF or vice versa or wtf? In any case, Pete is a big freak about the whole thing and Joe very tactfully doesn't point out that Pete stole Shannon's beffyness from him. OR MAYBE THEY HATE EACH OTHER. And Pete is still a big freak and Joe still rocks."

Because sometimes you have choices about where a story goes and what characters do, and other times PETE IS HANNIBAL LECTER. I can't decide if I prefer having a say in characterisation or not.

And this concludes our Very Important Thoughts On The Process Of Writing for today.
