nothing i haven't done before.
Watched the Iron Man movies for the first time in a while today. I like Jon Favreau, but just. Ugh. Joss is head-and-shoulders above in the "avoiding actually awful action movie tropes" department. Like--there is, perhaps, one gratuitous crotch shot/cover/near miss moment* in Avengers (but it's sort of off-plane and maybe/maybe not, so I can choose to believe that it isn't happening). Favreau gets two or three in each movie.
Also, Joss just does avoid stupid, annoying things like the scene in Iron Man 2 where Natasha is changing in the back seat of the Rolls and Happy is ogling her in the rearview. Like--Joss just doesn't do that shit, because beyond being sexist and gross, it's pointless. It's really, really nice to have things made by people who are more interested in telling a story than hitting dudes in the nads with footballs.
I also re-watched Captain America: Etc. the other night. I saw it in the theatre, and once before on DVD, and I just wanted to see if I was maybe in a bad mood when I saw it and that's why I disliked it so much. Verdict: I think I was in a bit of a bad mood, 'cause it's not as terrible as I remembered, but it's still not that great. These huge, huge chunks of story just get handwaved/skipped--like, "Oh I'm going to fight this battle! And now I am back from that important plot point! Let us get on with the awkward flirting, Peggy Carter." I don't even want to get into the CGI again, so I'll stop here. Ridiculous.
I want to like it? Because Chris Evans, he has grown on me, and I like all of the other people in the movie. Also, perhaps most importantly, I don't like the thought of people seeing Avengers and going back to get the movie canon and seeing--that delightful pile of rotting potential.
(All the Steve/Bucky where Steve didn't know Bucky liked him until after he took the serum OR EVEN LATER and there's lots of pining and missed opportunities and then sweet beffy sex and possibly size kink. Yes.)
