Yup, I'm going back to this fic. Crazy crazy. Do I have any idea where I'm going with this? None! ^_^ in either case, I'm doing a go-with-the-flow style and seeing where it lands me. Hopefully my first long chaptered fic will eventually be somewhat cohesive. and finished. ^^;;

Chapter 8 Chapter 9
Min was cursing, for the tenth time that day, for taking so many classes and one of them being Orgo. His finals schedule was somewhat of a nightmare -- Econ and Finance at the very beginning with Spanish and Japanese on the same day and Orgo at the very end to dread. Luckily, English was a paper he had already finished during reading period. Econ and Finance hadn't been too bad and Japanese and Spanish had always been his strong suits.
Now, he was trying to focus on all the small details for Orgo. His prof was atrociously bad and sifting through small details and assumptions one by one on his own had been painful to say the least. The analogies his prof used made him even more confused, so he almost never went to lectures unless there were quizzes or tests. He also enlisted the help of a tutor (yes, even the smart, hard-working Min found his academic limits sometimes).
It was painful to have Orgo on the very last day possible for exams. Most of his friends had left already for summer, and were relishing in their freedom, including Jae. Min sighed. They had spent almost every day together and almost every other night for the past two months before saying goodbye last Monday. Min had stayed up all night, waiting with Jae for Alex to come pick him up. To be honest, the moment had been somewhat unreal -- he was in too much of a shock to really react to Jae's hug and intense kiss, the heat of it all too quickly blown away as the cold air nipped his face. It was only hours later when Min felt slightly choked up and had to hide in bed for a while.
"I should use the Mitsnobu reaction for the following..." Min was thinking outloud, holed up on the tenth floor of the Science Library. He saw other Orgo students, the telltale five-inch deathbrick on their desks. He had three more days to brush up on everything and make sure his recall was all set. Junsu had a research paper due on the very last day also, which meant he hadn't really started until a week ago. Min sometimes envied humanities courses -- you knew when you reached the right page count. Studying, on the other hand, could go on forever and ever. At some point though, Min often took the holistic approach, opting for plenty of sleep, food, and water. He never understood how people could pull an all-nighter and then take a 3 hour test. His body just didn't work that way.
The good thing, despite his schedule, was that he had managed to find a summer apartment with relative ease. He needed to find a part-time job too as he was taking Physics this summer, but he figured he could get a library job since there were usually many openings.
The apartment had been a pretty good deal -- $500 with utilities plus free wi-fi and free laundry in the basement of the house. He only had three other roommates in the whole house and the apartment was relatively close to campus and downtown. The slightly unusual fact was that all his roommates were girls. Engineers in fact, who were currently working on their PhDs. He was surprised they were willing to have a guy in the house, but it seemed they were not home too often and had their respective girlfriends/boyfriends.
His phone suddenly vibrated, startling Min out of his ruminations. He went to the stairwell to answer the call.
"Hello?"
"Hey Min! You done yet? It's already like 7pm, dining hall's gonna close soon. You wanna go to the Grill?"
"Jeez, it's that late?! Uh, sure...are you at Feller right now?"
"Yeah, so let's meet at the Arch in 10."
"'Kay, see you then."
Min clicked his phone shut. He massaged his brow -- only three more days and then he too could relax in freedom. He packed up his things, throwing a sympathetic nod to his fellow Orgonites before taking the elevator down.
**************************************
It wasn't...horrible, he had to admit. He had managed to answer all the questions on the Orgo final, though how accurately was another question entirely. He was done! Free! Three months of glorious summer!
"And you have to pack up all your shit by tomorrow noon you know," Junsu added, seeming to read Min's mind.
"Thanks for reminding me jerk. Sheesh, let me enjoy my freedom for a bit hmmm? Anyway, unlike Mr. Procrastinator over here," jabjabjabbing at Junsu's arm "I've moved most of my stuff to my summer apartment."
"Yes, but I do live wicked close and have car, will drive. Worst comes to worst I stuff my car--"
"And get into an accident because you couldn't see out the windows? Smart choice 'Su."
"Hey! I'm a good driver I'll have you know...definitely drive more than you."
"That's not really something I'd boast about considering I got my license two years ago and live in a city where I don't have to and therefore, never drive. Most people, in fact, most teenagers, have driven more than me."
"Oh be quiet. You know I drive well."
"Yeah, though I still think Jae's better."
"That's 'cuz he can handle stick baby."
"Oh, you just HAD to go there didn't you...god, you and your horrible puns..."
"Aw, you love me for it, you know you do."
"Micky's not too bad with stickshift either, is he?"
"Oh shutup."
But Min could see Junsu was smiling despite his blushing.
"Anyway...it's frustrating not to have our respective menfolk here. Can't believe Micky's actually going to be in Korea for a month...why couldn't he just stay in good ol' VA where I could actually visit him?"
"Because of family, you know that. Not much better for me; at least Micky's staying in one place...Jae's going all over so I have no idea when I'll be able to talk to him."
Collective sigh.
"In either case, you have to come up to Boston for the weekends okay? Anyway, isn't Kyuhyun going to be around?"
"Yes, and a couple of his friends too...hopefully my class will have interesting people."
"It's Physics for Pre-med. No offense Min, but pre-meds can be somewhat intense."
"Hey, we're not all crazy. But I know what you mean. Eh, it could be worse. And you should come down sometime; there's a nice couch in my apartment."
"Ha, only if we're going to NYC. Otherwise, I'm sticking to Boston thank you. No AC, just as humid, and a smaller city? Not very appealing."
"But I'm here. Isn't that reason enough?"
"Not in the summer time. You know how hot it gets…"
"Thanks, friend." But Min was laughing.
Changmin was already sweating slightly; today was an unusually balmy day and he was not looking forward to packing the rest of his things. Luckily, the only things left were his beloved computer, bedding, some school supply things, and clothes. The girl he was subletting from, Emily, had introduced him to the other girls a few weeks ago: Shannon, Lori, and Dana. Shannon had been the most outgoing, immediately telling Min that there weren't very many house rules.
"We tend to be naturally clean people, so we haven't really had to assign cleaning duty or anything. I know from Emily that you're pretty clean and organized so I'm not too worried. Oh and if you have a significant other or guest staying over, just let us know beforehand. And the walls are thick. Just don't forget to close the windows, though in the summer that can be a bitch," she had leaned over, almost whispering the last sentence to Changmin.
"Oh Shan, always going for the sex rules," Lori said, laughing.
"Hey, everyone has needs. Right? Anyway, you can share as little or as much as you want. Just let us know if you have anyone over so that there aren't any surprise encounters in the bathroom. Dana over here nearly freaked us out with her early morning shower rendez-vu and forgetting to lock the door. I seriously thought we were getting robbed or something."
"And then you thought it was hot and asked if you could join," Dana quipped, though she was slightly blushing.
"I was joking! Trying to make light of an awkward situation. Didn't seem like Joel was too embarrassed though," Shan replied. "In either case, Changmin, we're pretty go-with-the-flow types so don't worry too much. Speaking of which, do you have a special someone?"
"You don't have to tell us if you don't want to, Shan's insatiably curious about other people," Lori added.
Changmin just smiled and nodded yes to Shan's question. He wasn't sure what to expect at first, but Shan seemed earnest and sincere despite her directness.
"Of course, you're such a cutie after all. Anyway, we usually do a family style Sunday dinner every two weeks if you want to join - Dana and Lori over here have been trying to master Indian cooking while I usually stick to Italian. We invite a couple of people so feel free to join. I'm not sure what your schedule's like, but you're always welcome."
"Thanks. Um, and I'll let you know if I have any guests or anything. They can use the couch right?"
"Yeah, that's what it's for. Rent's due every first day of the month and it's $500. Food-we all usually share, but I'm not sure what your dietary habits are. We usually rotate who buys milk and eggs…"
"It's okay, I'll buy my own stuff since I uh, eat a fair amount."
"Got it. I think that's it, right girls?"
"Mmm. If you have any questions or if something needs to be fixed, let us know ASAP," said Dana.
"Sounds good. I'll be moving in little by little - Emily said that was okay."
"Yeah, no problem at all. Here are the keys to the main door, and this is the key to the basement. You can store anything down there - there's lots of room."
Changmin had steadily familiarized himself with the house and began arranging things in his room. It was very comfortable, and there was even a porch where he could park his retro Schwinn bike. Getting settled and organized always made him happy, and kept his mind off other things.
He had a few weeks before his summer classes started, so he interviewed for a couple of library positions before being hired for the Gifts department. Most of it involved administrative things, like copying, opening up boxes, shredding paper, and filing. In either case, it would be enough to cover rent and some food.
He was organizing his room when his e-mail suddenly tinged at him. Looking up, he noticed it was Jae. Min exclaimed with glee and hurriedly opened the message.
"Dear Min,
Hello! And greetings from France.
We've arrived safely and I finally have some time to quickly send you an e-mail. It's been a while since I've been here but I am already feeling nostalgic. There's just this sense of arrival when you see familiar sites, you know? Like meeting old friends.
I'm actually on route to help my French mother buy groceries so I can't chat for too long at this café. She'll begin to wonder why it's taking me so long. In either case, I saw this on the way and had to send you an e-mail.
I already wish that you were here with me, but there's always a next time right? In either case, I bet you didn't know that I bought cologne (the one you almost never wear but makes you smell insanely good when you remember) so that I'll have you nearby. Sounds sketchy? Mmm, but you have no idea how much…it helps…at night. I keep noticing the couples walking in the park, sharing ice cream, kissing each other and I can't help but think of you. Especially when I'm alone in my bed ^_^.
And with that sentence, I will now think of ugly old naked grandmothers with howling chihuahuas. Good. Calmer now and not thinking dirty thoughts. Tenting is the last thing I need to be doing (did I make you laugh? I hope so!).
Hugs and kisses!
Jae <3"
Min couldn't help smirking, and also feeling slightly aroused. He wondered how Jae spent his nights. Would Jae be lying in bed, ears perked to check for any noises before discretely slipping a hand down his smooth, toned chest to pinch and squeeze a nipple while his other hand moved towards his boxers? Would he spray himself all over with cologne or just tease with a light spritz on his wrist? Min swallowed. He was rapidly getting hard and his bed was looking incredibly appealing.
"Changmin? You up there? We're gonna go out and eat dinner, wanna join us?" Lori's voice filtered up the stairwell.
Of course, his stomach decided to speak at that moment, forestalling his other needs.
Another time, thought Min. In either case, he was sure he would be spending plenty of quality alone time in bed.
"Yeah, sure! Be down in a sec."
