ugh. plagiarism =/= using similar ideas/plots or getting inspiration from another media product. plagiarism == copying large portions of text word-for-word or nearly word-for-word. people need to stop being so precious :/ literature has been derivative since time immemorial. just look at Shakespeare. when people write a fic very similar to one of mine i think it's a good exercise in reinvention, not a mortal insult :/!!

YES! I seriously don't understand why people don't get this. But then again, this girl seems to be wicked young and while I know some teens who are voracious readers, it just means there's less chance of her being exposed to what exactly plagiarism is and understanding how often themes are repeated.
