Pokémon :: Refridgerated Memories

MC gave me a trick for the trick-or-treat meme where I had to write a drabble about Red visiting his mother. Because the picture she drew me for her trick is made of epic win, I was obliged to respond as soon as I could. Let's hear it for Red's Mom!

It was funny about the things you find while your children have grown up and live on their own. Red's mother didn't want to throw away the scribbles and hand-made magnets stuck to her refridgerator door, the memories from long ago in Pallet Town when Red and Green were still tots. Back when the two boys were getting their first tastes of competition, the first little grin of victory when her son received a Charmander on his tenth birthday.

She heard a knock on the door. The man at the door frozen her to the spot like the fridge itself.

"Hey, Mom." The champion said, adjusting his cap. "Sorry I haven't returned your calls. I found this, and I thought you'd want to keep it safe."

"Red, it's good to see you again!" She said, pulling him in a tight embrace. "Hm? Let me see that."

She unfolded a paper in her hands that had been offered gingerly by her son. The colors were smudged and the lines were shoddy, but there was the proud stick-figure on top of a giant version of his Charmander, stomping across a firey Mt. Moon. "We're gonna be the best!" It read in a speech bubble.

"Oh Red... thank you. It means so much to me. Would you like to stay for the night?"

"Sure. I want to stay for a while... a couple of days. How have you been doing, Mom? I thought maybe we'd catch up on some things together."

These were words that only a mother would understand; something that brought her as much pride and joy as the day their son grew up to become the Champion.
