I mean, I think he is vain but he has a lot of insecurities. I think a lot about the character. He said that he didn't have many friends in college because he was a "tall, gay, awkward yet self-satisfied Texan" and that cooking helped him make friends.

And he had a boyfriend who called him fat and put him in the hospital. And I think he likes himself he just doesn't think other people like him as much and so he tries really hard because he wants other people to like him. I think the reason he's so ambitious is that he equates success with his self worth and that he's trying to prove his awesomeness.

Jensen on the other hand knows exactly who he is and after all the shit he went through he makes no apologies. He's not going to change for anyone he's got a sort of "like me or fuck off" attitude that works for him. And if you actually look at their friend groups Jen has a hell of a lot more friends than Jared.

I always write it as though Jensen has a clearer view of reality than Jared because Jared is always forcing himself to be optimistic. We saw this same period from Jensen's point of view and Jensen thought it was all okay because no one reacted to badly but for Jared any negative comment would be too much.

So that's a very long explanation of my thoughts. Thank you so much for your lovely response. I'm really glad you liked it!
