Language & The Internet by David Crystal

So I'm reading this book "Language and the Internet" by David Cystal. It's supposed ot be a good book, very informative and intuitive
about the way language is used on the internet.

I can't help but feel that it is so outdated. I don't know if it's because I have grown up with the internet and I studied the same topic as an insider but... You can tell he's looking at this 'netspeak' from an outsiders perspective. Now I'm not saying he doesn't participate, but it's so obvious that he's studying it, rather than living it. The study was supposed to be ethnographic but it's definitely not.

I'm quite disappointed by it, if I'm being honest. I thought he'd be better. His book on texting was brilliant.

The front cover quote about the book is "Engaging and Provocative". It's not. It's flat and condescending.
