Maya came back from the vet without a trip to Andover for X-rays, which is definitely a good thing both as far as our sanity, the cat’s wellbeing, and our pet insurance goes. The vet thinks either she’s been in a fight (evidenced by the scraps of white fur attached to her chest which probably aren’t hers) or had a near-miss with a car (suggested by the fact her claws were all scratched up and had fragments of tarmac embedded in them). Either way, she’s not broken anything and is probably just bruised and sore. He gave her a painkiller injection and gave us a course of amoxicillin tablets to start tomorrow morning - I’ve never tried to give the cats tablets before so I have no idea how they will take to them, but nice Mr. Vet says the tablets taste yeasty and most cats will eat them if you give them with some food. Here’s hoping for not having to force-feed a cat its tablet twice a day! Might try the old trick of wrapping it in some cheese or pate first and see if she fancies it then. I just hope when we get back from work she’s feeling significantly less sorry for herself, and maybe will stay out of the roads a bit more! Neither cat has much car sense, which isn’t the end of the world as we live in a quiet crescent and most people drive very considerately. However, the tarmac does get nice and warm and Maya is predominantly black, so she’s not easy to see like her day-glo white brother.
It’s also Tom’s birthday today! He of course has had a nice morning worrying about the cat and stressing about being in to work late because of it. Still, we’ve had a nice pub lunch and eaten far too much and are probably going to just veg tonight (like we always do at the moment! I just have no energy in the evenings right now…).
