My escapades in sunny LA

And now, a full day late, I present to you: My Super LA Vacation (in convenient day-by-day LJ cuts)!

For those of you who don't know, I spent the weekend in Los Angeles for my cousin's wedding. It was the first time I've been in California since I moved away seven years ago.

I got out of school early (at the start of 6th period) so I could get to the airport in time to make it to my flight. Ironically, the plane did not actually leave until an hour after the scheduled depart time. The man next to me fell asleep and asked me if we had already landed when he woke up, if that gives you any idea of how long it felt.

Speaking of the man next to me, I got the feeling that he had repressed pedophillic urges. He was the creepy, nerdy sort of man with a moustache, and while he was nice enough to talk to, I didn't get the urge to tell him too much about myself. He got a Fun Pack on the plane and offered me candy from it, for one thing. XD And then he told me all about how he had been on a business trip for two different companies and was goign to have to charge them both for it.

I think strangers tell me their life stories because I just can't bring myself to tell them that I don't care.

Once I got to LA and was picked up my my mother and her friend Carla, I was exhausted, so I didn't feel like doing much. We went to a little sushi bar and got dinner and the best green tea I've ever tasted. Then we went back to Carla's condo (A really lovely complex, with lots of palms, hibiscuses, and kitty cats) . Unforunately, after a four-hour flight and a two-hour time change, I was so tired that I went to sleep at 10.

Woke up at seven and had leftover sushi for breakfast. It's surprisingly tasty! A while later when the others had woken up (lazy bums) we set out to do stuff in LA. I gotta say, being back in California after all those years was orgasmic. It's the one place that's ever really felt like home to me.

See's, Lychee Bubble Tea, finding a little plastic dinosaur on Venice Beach... does it really get any better?

We picked up my brother from the airport around 3, then went back to the condo to get ready for my cousin's rehersal dinner. The dinner itself was alright, a lot of awkward talking with strangers, but I think I'm getting better at that. The food itself was great, all fancy Italian stuff. I drank several pina coladas and strawberry margaritas that were unfortunately of the non-alcoholic variety. The staff were really nice and friendly, like Italian waiters stereotypically are, but there was this one white teenage waiter mized in who didn't talk to anyone or smile, so that was pretty funny.

I wanted to go to a show that started at 7 while I was in LA, and I thought the band I wanted to see (Over It) was going to play last. Unfortunately, we didn't get to leave the dinner until 9:15 and didn't get to the El Rey until an hour later. So I got to see a handful of the last band's (The Academy Is) songs. So that was really disappointing. To make matters worse, the show ended in half an hour and my mother wasn't picked up her phone. So my bother and I had to wait outside the theater for her to call four about 45 minutes. On the bright side, I did get a lot of free stickers and stuff.

I was feeling rather down, since this would be my last full day in California, and was worried that it might be another seven years before I'd get to come back.

This cleared up once I went back to Venice beach, though. Spent a few hours relaxing in the sun, and words cannot describe how good it felt. My skin is a lot darker than it was before-not really tan, but darker. I'm not pale anymore. Plus, nearly every guy in California seems to be hot. I can't believe I forgot that.

I've also come to the conclusion that I'm much for confident in Califonia- I would NEVER walk around in just a bikini top and a pair of jeans in Chicago, but in LA I was doing just fine. Doesn't hurt that I've lost a little weight since last summer, either.

It was seven years since I've eaten at In-N-Out Burger, and those were seven years of torture. If you ever get to eat at In-N-Out, don't pass up the opportunity!

After we ate we went back to the condo, dolled up for the wedding, and set out. The wedding itself was nice, and mericfully short. The reception was longer, but that was alright because I got to walk around outside instead of socializing. But the funny part was, just a little bit before I left, this reeeeally drunk guy started trying to pick me up. I think he was the groom's brother. XD

Our conversation went like this:

Guy: Hey, you!
Me: Mm? *Looks over*
Guy: Come over here!
Me: *walks over*
Guy: Do you like My Chemical Romance?
Me: Not at all.
Guy: Whaaaaat? Oh well, You're really hot. Do you have a boyfriend?
Me: Nah, not right now.
Guy: Dude! No way! There's like, no single women here, y'know?
Me: Oh, I know, it's like everyone here's married or taken. (At this point, I hadn't realized that he was shitfaced and was trying to take conversation)
Guy: Except for us!
Me: Uh.. I don't think that's legal in most states...
Guy: Wha, how old are you?
Me: 16.
Guy: Ah that's okay, we can just play around. *Puts arm around me* I'm 24. Do you like Taking Back Sunday?
Me: Nope.
Guy: Whaaaaaat?
Me: I just don't like emo bands.
Guy: Do you like Metallica?
Me: Not really.
Guy: Whaaaaat? What's your favourite band?
Me: Uh.. I like the Exploited.
Guy: Wha?
Me: The Exploited?
Guy: *shakes head* You're younger, you should know the cool bands... the exploited... Can I punch you in the face? Seriously, can I punch you in the face?
Me: Er, I'd rather you didn't.
Guy: You're sooooo hot... I love your hair... *sniffs hair*
Me: *stare*
Guy: You want a beer?
Me: No, I'm good.
Guy: *laughs*
Me: Uh, y'know, I was gonna go do something. Over there. So I'll see you later, okay? *Walks off*

I can't help but wonder if he'd have found me so hot had he been sober. XD

I was rather sad getting up the next morning, because I knew it would be my last day. So I get ready early and took a walk around the condo grounds, sniffed some flowers, and petted some friendly kitties. And before I knew it, I was on a plane headed back to Chicago.

But it doesn't end there. My mother noticed I was happier than I'd been in seven years, and now she's talking about sending me back to LA for Spring Break! I really hope it works out! I am a California girl at heart.

In other news, I start work at Rocky Mountain Chocolate tomorrow. Wish me luck!
