Someone mentioned Eugene Ionesco in a favorable light the other day, and I read a little bit of The Bald Soprano on Amazon. The Theater of the Absurd intrigued me, and the premise for the play was also interesting.

Theatre of the absurd is pretty much however you want to take it. On one hand, it's fun to read and act as unlike most theatre, it leads a lot up to interpretation not only in the intellectual sense, but in the theatrical sense--a person could deliver a line sitting in a chair just as naturally as they could while having sex onstage. It's a lousy comparism, but it's a lot like Donnie Darko--a lot of different people can take a look at it, and some people will love it, some people will fucking hate it, but everyone can come up with a lot of different conclusions from it that are more or less grounded. I fucking hate Donnie Darko, and I think that it's fairly easy to write for theatre of the absurd, but some people love it. By all means, go for it.
