II. The High Priestess
Dignified: The High Priestess suggests the idea of using your inner intuition to come to an outward and effective outcome. In using intuition one will come to reliance solely on the self rather then outside influences. The High Priestess brings courage and strength from within and she encourages one to grow from within rather then depend on what others insist is for your highest good. The idea here is to listen to what your heart is telling you and follow those instincts. The High Priestess challenges us to listen to our emotions as they usually lead us in the right direction. The High Priestess does not always react to what is on the surface as she knows that something lies deeper within the depths.
Ill-Dignified: In a reversed position the High Priestess represents over-reliance on others thoughts and opinions. It signifies the inability to act instinctually or come to a conclusion on your own. Reversed the High Priestess depicts a person with self-doubt and one who refuses to act according to their own better judgment.

Occupation/Grade: 11th, private tutoring
Room: 401

Appearance: Lillian is fair-skinned, slightly taller than average, with a willowy build. She's long-legged and slender and her weight tends to be in the mid-range of what is appropriate for her age and height. She has long, blue black hair that reaches the small of her back when she brushes it out into waves and large doe-like blue eyes with medium length lashes. Most of the time, she pulls the hair framing her face back into a small bun or half-ponytail on the back of her head, keeping it in place with decorative barrettes, ribbons, and hair clips, leaving the rest to hang loose. In gym class, she simply pulls it back into a full ponytail tied with a ribbon.
Lillian makes few, if any personal touches, to her uniforms. She chooses to wear blouses year round and hem her skirts an inch above her knees. Occasionally, she wears jewelry, usually a pin or a brooch on the breast of her jacket or small pearl earrings. She always wears a tarnished silver locket and small lady's watch on her left wrist.
Outside of class, Lillian's fashion style is more distinct. She wears a lot of dresses and long skirts made from light, flowy fabrics. She likes loose long sleeves and flat-heeled shoes. As a rule, Lillian dresses modestly and comfortably though she tends to take care in the colors she wears, picking only ones that complimentary to her. During warmer months, she dresses for the weather in simple shorts (not short shorts), short-sleeved t-shirts, tank tops, sandals, and keeps her hair tied up. Her color choices tend to be a little on the somber, sedate side (dark purple, charcoal, black, dark blue, dark green) during cooler months and she wears a lot of light sweaters. Her color choices during warmer months tend to be significantly lighter and more reflective in shade (light pink, peach, white, etc).
Personality: Overall, Lillian is a nice, good-natured girl with a pleasant, accommodating demeanor. Though she's come out of her shell since starting at Adessi Hall, she still lacks social initiative and directness but usually makes up for it with gentle charm and politeness. She's endlessly even-tempered often to the point of coming across as completely unruffled and serene no matter how much chaos is going on around her.
This isn't to say that she doesn't get angry or upset, Lillian is actually very sensitive and it's easy to offend her unintentionally without realizing it. She deals with it by withdrawing into herself rather than asserting herself. Lillian avoids direct confrontations and messy, ugly scenes if she can help it. It doesn't take much to make her cry though she usually maintains her composure until she's alone. She doesn't handle herself well in conflicts; she'll take the blame for things she hasn't done to ease dissent among people. Lillian dislikes needless fighting and discord and has steadfast belief in the power of compromise and faith that there is a peaceful resolution to almost any conflict.
As a rule, Lillian would rather talk things out civilly than fight. However, she has strong, survival instincts, both for herself and those she cares for, that she's only vaguely aware of and can be very forceful at times. She has a habit of stalling and being indecisive and a number of people think she's incapable of standing up for herself or making a stand on any issue. Lillian has a very strong will and more conviction than most people are aware of, including herself. Once her mind is made up and she chooses to stick to her guns, it can be difficult to sway her or stop her unless the person has perfectly logical argument for why she is wrong or shouldn't do something.
Lillian has a strong sense of empathy for others and is an excellent listener and confidant. She's loyal and keeps confidences to herself. She genuinely cares and feels concern for others though sometimes she expresses herself so earnestly that she comes across as slightly sarcastic or insincere. She's a good mediator in arguments and gives good advice when she doesn't doubt herself too much to share her insights. She's perceptive and emotionally intelligent when she trusts her intuition.
She's very artistic with a great love for both the visual arts and theater. She also enjoys music greatly and a wide variety of genres at that. Show tunes and movie scores are her favorites but her CD collection contains everything from oldies to opera.
Lillian is notoriously unathletic. While she's fairly well coordinated and has good reflexes, she's terrible at sports. She lacks competitive drive or instincts and can be very lazy when it comes to exerting herself physically. She also has a hard time seeing the point of sports, not finding them fun at all.
History: Lillian is the middle child of three born to upper middle-class parents. She has an older brother, Matthew, who is seventeen, and a younger sister, Emily, who is seven. The Taylors had no intention of having any more children after Lillian but an unplanned pregnancy changed that.
The Taylor children grew up comfortably, wanting for very little. Their father was a successful businessman and their mother was a respected school teacher. Together, the Taylors strove to provide the best opportunities for their kids. It was this desire for them to excel that placed them in a string of private schools from kindergarten on. Initially, Lillian was two grades lower than her brother but she did so well at school that the administration recommended that she skip third grade much to her parents' pride and elation.
Lillian was a gentle, timid girl with a tendency toward being a social lurker. She was likable enough but quiet and a little shy and most of her classmates didn't have the patience to try to coax her out of her shell. She was exceptionally bright, polite, and talented, a combination that some of her classmates found intimidating. Most assumed she wouldn't be interested in the same things they were and never invited her to slumber parties or to hang out with them and Lillian wasn't direct or assertive enough to initiate friendships on her own.
Lillian spent most of her childhood drawing, painting, reading, and watching her classmates from the sidelines. As she grew older, she focused more and more on her schoolwork and art, the praise she received from her parents and teachers when she did well acting as a bit of a balm for her growing self-consciousness and insecurity. In time, Lillian simply got used to being alone at school, even learning to enjoy it somewhat. She might have been ignored but at least, she wasn't teased like some of the other girls were. Lillian gained a reputation for being a dreamer and a little off in her own world. She was still sad and lonely but she buried those feelings in her art and tried to stay busy and not think about it too much.
Her parents gradually became concerned that Lillian didn't seem to have any friends or do anything but paint, draw, and read. She never went to other girls' houses or brought any classmates home. They brought up their concerns with the school counselor and a couple of teachers who were also worried about Lillian. Options were discussed and suggestions were made, including the possibility that Lillian might have just gotten so far ahead of her peers again that she needed to be bumped up another grade level. Eventually, a fresh start and new environment were brought up.
Boarding school was the option the Taylors eventually settled on. Some of their acquaintances and friends recommended Adessi Hall after knowing people who'd attended and come out of the environment well adjusted. At the end of her eighth grade year, the Taylors told their daughter, who'd always been mentally and emotionally mature for her age, of their concerns and their plan to send her to boarding school for high school.
Lillian was very resistant to the idea. She'd grown very used to the way her life was now and was reluctant to change it or her environment. Adessi Hall was halfway across the country in a different time zone. She insisted that it was illogical for her parents to want to send their fifteen year old daughter to the east coast. Didn't most parents want to keep their daughters close by so they didn't get into trouble? In the end, her parents kept insisting and Lillian was packed up and moved across the country.
Lillian entered the school as a thirteen year old incoming freshman and she's attended Adessi Hall ever since. It took almost eight months of being away to jumpstart the process but boarding school has had the desired effect on her. She's still quiet but she's outgrown a lot of her shyness since freshman year and gained a reputation for being very peaceful and composed regardless of the chaos going on around her. She's blossomed since leaving home, taking up an interest in theater and trying out for supporting roles in school plays in addition to being an active member of the school's art club.
