Chromeo, Jennifer Batten

Last night I went to see the 80s deliciousness that is Chromeo. LOVED it. They had a strict, absolutely no digital cameras policy, so I don't have any photos of my own, but there is a picture on their MySpace of the totally excellent neon sign behind the stage.

If you are having trouble seeing it, it is pink neon and says "Chromeo", and below it says "Two Step" with the two legs from their keyboard stands below it. In case you didn't know, their keyboards are set up with two female mannequin legs instead of regular legs. It's funny and kind of gross all at the same time.

What was really amusing was watching all the 21-year-olds who had no idea just how perfectly Chromeo nails the very worst of the 80s cheesy dance groove genre. They adored Chromeo, every last one of them. All these indie kids in hoodies and argyle sweaters totally getting down on the smooth funk - pretty great to watch.

And then today, Chris took me to a small private show by Jennifer Batten. If you don't know who she is, she is an amazing guitarist who's been playing professionally for 20+ years. She toured with Michael Jackson on three of his albums, starting in the late 1980s. She toured with Jeff Beck, which, for a guitarist, is like touring with God. She is really impressive, and I enjoyed her show a lot more than I thought I would - although, I gotta say, the audience was me, the wife of the guy who put together the show, her friend who was obviously there for support, and a whole bunch of guys. Jennifer said that that's what her audiences usually look like - heavy on the guys. Women just don't play guitar. I'm glad I went, though. Check out her MySpace if you're interested, or Google her and check out her official website.
