Sungmin and Kyuhyun have known each other since middle school. They had started out as friends; best friends.

"You know what they say about New Year's?" Kyuhyun asks Sungmin one afternoon as they watch the sun set on the roof of the elder's house.

"What?" Min asks, leaning back on the palms of his hands to take a good look at the breathtaking view before them.

"If you kiss someone when the clock strikes 12 on New Year's Eve, you'll be with them forever."

Sungmin playfully smacks the back of his best friend's head from behind, "You're so fucking gay Kyu, shut up."

They both laugh together until the last sliver of sunlight is completely hidden by the horizon and darkness envelopes them.

*

It's Sungmin's first year of high school, and he doesn't get to see Kyu as often as he used to.

It's the year when he gets his very first girlfriend, and the same year he gets his very first kiss. It's innocent, but loving, and every inch of Sungmin's body bursts with a wonderful, tingling feeling.

That same year, Sungmin experiences his first heartbreak, and Kyuhyun opens the front door of his house to find Sungmin standing there with his hands on his knees, panting erratically. Tears are threatening to fall from his eyes and he looks like a piece of shit, but Kyu doesn't have the heart to joke about it and tell him so because Sungmin thrusts his arms out and falls onto Kyuhyun, burying his face into his best friend's shoulder and whispering the whole story into his neck.

Kyuhyun mumbles carefully that he has no idea what the hell Sungmin is saying, and asks why he's at his house at 11:30pm, because it's New Year's Eve and he really should be having a good time at home with his family.

Kyuhyun takes his friend into his room unnoticed, because there are absolutely no kids at his house right now, and all the adults are out back getting their asses wasted.

Sungmin tells Kyuhyun the whole story in his room, all the while leaning his head on Kyu's shoulder.

"It was horrible," he tells Kyu, "and she did it on New Year's Eve! She told me that she's tired of me, and that she only realizes it now..."
He begins crying again and the younger one can't help but hate Sungmin's ex-girlfriend because she's a fucking idiot; what girl in the right mind would want to break up with such a cute, loving, smart, talented, and overall wonderful boy?

Kyuhyun flinches a little, because he can't believe he just thought that about Sungmin.

The latter looks up at him with big, round, bloodshot eyes to ask him if he's okay, and Kyuhyun thinks, 'No, I am not okay because I just thought homosexual things about you... and now I think that you look absolutely gorgeous, looking up at me like that.'
"I'm... I'm fine," he mumbles, "but I'm not so sure about you, will you be able to walk home by yourself? I know you don't live to far, but it's kinda late, and people around here are definitely drunk."

Sungmin thinks about it for a second, and tightens his grip around Kyuhyun's waist, "I don't wanna leave you," he whispers.
Kyuhyun is taken aback, but can't help but ask what Sungmin means by that, exactly.

Sungmin hesitates, but as his eyes fall on the wall clock on the other side of Kyuhyun's room, he raises his head and plants a slow kiss on his lips.

The younger's eyes widen in shock, but he feels butterflies fluttering about in his stomach, and it takes all the self restraint in his lanky being not to wrap his arms around Sungmin's neck because this... this is what he's been waiting for all along.

This is why he thinks that way about Sungmin.

This is why he doesn't like going to school anymore.

This is why he always tells himself he misses him.

'This,'  Kyuhyun thinks to himself, 'Is perfect. Absolutely perfect.'

Sungmin pulls away after what felt like hours and looks deep into Kyuhyun's eyes, "I don't wanna leave you," he whispers again, leaning in to steal another, swift kiss.

Sungmin waits for an answer, and when Kyuhyun just stares at him in shock, Sungmin closes his eyes and lets out a shaky breath, "I knew it," he whispers weakly, grabbing his jacket and hastily opening the door.

"I'm sorry," he mumbles, pushing the door open and running back to his house, ignoring all the curious looks from the few visitors resting in the living room.

Kyuhyun follows him; his reaction very much delayed, and Sungmin is just about to slam the door shut when Kyuhyun reaches out his hand, "No, wait," he calls out weakly.

There's a sound of the door closing loudly, and Kyuhyun's outstretched hand falls a little, a look of disappointment spread across his face.

Kyuhyun trudges his way back to his bedroom and slumps down onto his mattress, "Happy 15th Birthday, Minnie," he whispers.

*

Sungmin doesn't answer Kyuhyun's calls, and it's been two months since the incident already.

Kyuhyun misses him even more now, because they haven't had contact in any form for two months. Two months. It's like living in hell, and it takes Kyuhyun a couple of days before he's fully convinced that it isn't.

It's Saturday, and Kyuhyun knows that every Saturday, Sungmin watches the sunset from his rooftop. He used to do it every week with Kyuhyun, but they haven't done it together in a while.

Kyuhyun hopes he still watches up there anyway.

It's 6:00, and Kyuhyun climbs the side of the other's house to find said person waiting patiently on the other side of the slanted roof, his knees pulled up to his chest.

He sneaks up behind the boy and, very firmly, grabs his left shoulder, pinning him down with a gentle thud. Kyuhyun jumps on top of him and pins both his hands over his head.

"What the fu--"

Kyuhyun kisses the boy senseless, and it doesn't take long before Sungmin gives in and wraps his arms around him, pulling him closer and deepening the kiss. By the time they're finished, it's already seven.

Kyuhyun pulls away and envelopes Min into a warm hug, "I love you, I love you, I love you," he whispers, over and over again like a mantra. Sungmin doesn't have the willpower to hold in his tears, and chuckles lightly at the irony of it all.

Irony, it doesn't make any sense.

Sungmin laughs again, and wraps his arms around Kyuhyun's waist, "I love you, too," he says.

Life is too perfect sometimes.

*

"Three, two, one, HAPPY NEW YEAR!" they scream, it's officially 2010, and Sungmin is still with Kyuhyun; as a part of Super Junior.
The fifteen members hug and laugh as they welcome the new year with smiles that are to die for and eyes that sparkle with success.

Sungmin grabs Kyuhyun at the back of the dark room and steals a slow kiss from the other's lips, "Happy New Year," the elder giggles, a little tipsy, and Kyuhyun smiles.

"Happy Birthday," he says.

They find the other members making a run for the birthday boy, and he's showered in hugs and affectionate kisses by the other members.

*

"Happy New Year, Honey," Kyuhyun whispers to Sungmin, a frail, old hand finding it's way to his, gripping it tightly.

It's 2050, and Sungmin is 73 and frail. It's been decades since Super Junior retired, and their songs have become old-time classics. Jungsoo died two years ago, and so has Heechul and Hangeng, Sungmin misses them, but knows he'll be joining them soon.

Sungmin reaches out to kiss his love on the cheek, "Same to you, too, Kyuhyun."

Kyuhyun lets out a soft, raspy chuckle, "... oh, and a Happy Birthday."

Actually, Sungmin thinks it would be nice to stay like this with Kyuhyun a little longer...

... maybe even forever.
