Don, this one's for you.
Aside from that, I'm floored.
Escambia teacher dismissed for tattoo photos online
Virginia Carter, a substitute teacher at West Florida High School, has been dismissed because of photographs she posted online of her tattoos.
Escambia County School District officials said they became aware of the matter after a package was mailed anonymously to them this week.
When school officials investigated, they learned that West Florida students knew about the photographs, which included a photo of Carter’s unclothed back, said Alan Scott, assistant superintendent for human resource services.
“It’s not pornography,” Scott said, adding the photographs were posted either on MySpace or Facebook.
School officials felt that, because students knew about the photographs, it hurt Carter’s ability to be an effective teacher, he said.
“Technically, she didn’t do anything illegal,” Scott said.
But the position of trust teachers have with children means they are held to a high standard, Scott said.
“People need to be really careful about what they post,” he added.
He said it was a difficult decision, and wasn’t sure if Carter would be permanently removed from the district’s substitute teaching roster.
“She’s assured me that she’s pulled all the pictures,” he said.
