Short Notes: The Fuck Have You Been?
1. This is not a cover letter/my project due Tuesday/the beta that I'm supposed to be working on. Will crawl back into my productivity cave in a moment, once a headache subsides.
2. Started reading Homestuck again because I want to be convinced that it's not as bad as I imagined. Chan got the brunt of my ranting last night, but needless to say, it's why I have a headache. The art is beautiful, the characters are somewhat likable (favorites so far are Karkat, Tavros, and Jade), the concept (using everything ever to tell a story) is fascinating, and the storyline is well-written. I even like a lot of the music.
Where it falls apart for me is the constant need for chat logs. I end up missing a lot of the story and character interactions because 90% of the story is told through them. It's hard enough to decipher what the hell is being said because I can't focus on text in certain colors on certain backgrounds (read: most of the troll colors and anything Dave has to say on half of MSPA's background colors), but forcing me to read through crappy l33tspeak is hella annoying. And then, as if the story feels the need to kick me in the head while I'm already lying facedown in a puddle of my own face-blood, the fucking chat logs are usually tl;dr. Seriously, pages upon pages of this shit on every other panel. Zero patience for this, let me tell you. It gets even more hilarious when Hussie breaks the fourth wall to summarize everything ever. Then I just see massive blocks of text and tl;dr that too. Clearly, this comic does not want me reading it.
But it's a good story, so I sort of want to see where it's going. And like I said, the art is pretty, and I like the characters. But I will punch something over these effing chat logs. Luckily, I have this, so every time I feel the need to punch something in the face, I play this game instead. Nothing like watching sparkly shoujo get contracted... before I throw them into huge forests of witches to be ripped apart.
3. Found out about World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria via f!s. If I wasn't broke and if I didn't think Blizzard was a bunch of ass holes, I'd be all over that. That's just too effing ridiculous I can't even. It's like the game finally stopped taking itself seriously. (Goblins and gnomes don't count.)
4. And also, I fail at NaNo. But I have plot bunnies again, and I may actually finish an experiment for FFNet and the BBS. Maybe Serebii too, but I think the first part is going to be a bit on the short side.
