Stiiiiill looking for someone to shove the BBS events onto. Speak now because I'm giving out sparkly magic mod-like sticks. May even lead to a promotion because my brain is imploding.
In fact, because my brain is imploding due to overwork (WHY DO I HAVE THREE JOBS RIGHT WHEN I'M SUPPOSED TO BE MOVING AND THERE'S A WEDDING IN TWO WEEKS AND I HAVE TO DO MY FINANCIAL AID STUFF BUT WHEN WILL I DO THAT AAAAAAAAAAH), have a bunch of memes, including one I'll answer eventually.
(From
soda_and_capes. About stance on fanfic tropes.)
Creature Fics: No, Scott, I have no idea what this means either. And I'm too lazy to Google it. Not that Googling porn tropes was ever a good idea in the first place. (Although did you know that image-searching "porn" pulls up no porn? This is fact.)
Animagus: Meh.
MPreg: Only for the lulz. As in, if it's crack, I'd read it because I've recently realized that in certain cases, male characters + babbeh + crack = hilarious.
Slave: Depends on the slavefic. If you mean like a society based on master-slavery, eh. If you mean like
Teahouse, I'm okay with that. Like, really okay. Jsyk.
BDSM, S&M: This seems to be the only smutfic I enjoy writing for some reason. And I don't mind at all reading it, especially if the relationship dynamic is all lolwut. (As in, if the macho guy is the one getting whipped, beaten, and chained, oh baby.)
Age difference: Depends. If it's not really highlighted that much and if it's not particularly noticable, I throw up a "meh." If we're talking like Lolita, that's... not so much okay with me.
Blood-Play: Honestly? I'm not into anything involving bodily fluids.
Under-age (chan): I'm most comfortable with around fifteen or sixteen and up, partially because a lot of my fandoms involve a lot of characters who are around that age. But I don't particularly enjoy any fic that emphasizes the characters' ages, and I feel a little less comfortable with anything below that line.
Cross-dressing/Gender bender: Yes, please.
Dubious-consent: See BDSM note.
Non-con: A little fuzzier. I don't get off to it at all ironically, but I like the idea of exploring it as a psychological piece, rather than a kink fic.
Incest: Oh, the things I didn't mention in that headcanon post the other day. Yes.
Threesome/more-some/gang-bang: Okay! (I blame
this movie thoroughly.)
Death: Depends on how it's done. Like Scott, my stance is if you're good and develop it all right, it's okay in my book, but if you're doing something like killing off characters to be ~*~edgy~*~ or to have characters descend down piles of teenage-poetry-style emoangst, then... no.
Water-sports/scat: No. Biggest squicks I have.
Crossovers: Only if it's crack, and you're good at crack. Then it's hilarious. But so often, people aren't, so... yeah.
Unhappy/wide open endings: Wide-open endings, yes please! I like fics that make me think. Unhappy, though? Depends on the ending. Sometimes, a story just can't end any other way than unhappy, but that's okay in my book.
Infidelity: Depends. Is it explored in an intelligent way, or does the character just go off and date whoever with no consequences?
Self-harming/Attempted suicide: No. Now, there's a reason why I say no. It's not because I don't think lit should touch this. In fact, if you can do it seriously to explore exactly what it's like to have those thoughts, by all means throw up a trigger warning and explore it. But so many times, kids don't explore it any other way. It's not an attempt to portray what depression is like. It's just an attempt to display emoangst, cowardice, whatever else. As in, "I don't have clinical depression, but my beloved rejected me! TIME TO BREAK OUT THE RAZOR." Or, "IT'S COOL TO FEEL SUICIDAL." No. It's not cool, and attempting suicide does not make your story seem deep. To be honest, there's only one fic out there that I've read that didn't do this (as in, actually explored cutting as a result of uncontrollable depression), and considering that's one fic out of God knows how many I've seen, I just feel like it's safer to hit the back button.
(But I will say that that one fic... thank you, whoever wrote it.)
Rimming: I'm seriously turned off by anything involving the anus. Sorry.
Felching: Bodily fluid. So... no.
Fisting: No.
Addictions/Disorders: If explored seriously, yes. If used to help develop a character (also seriously), yes. If done in a crackfic? ...No.
Torture/Violence: Mmm, I love me some angry hatesex.
Toys: YES. The more creative, the better.
Uniforms (school girl, nurse, military uniforms etc. ): Mmm, uniforms. Generally, any kind will do, but like Scott, military uniforms usually float my boat the most.
Double penetration: Anus. No.
Anal (het, gay and/or lesbian): No.
Deep-throating: I don't know. Whenever I read deep-throating, I sort of get this reflex gag myself.
Boot worship, foot fetish: Agreed with Scott. Boot goes with the uniform thing. Foot... no.
Chains, shackles, collars, handcuffs, and other means to restrain a character: YES. The more creative, the better.
Blindfolds: YES.
Certain places such as dungeons, prison cells, interrogation room, offices (add your own if you have one I didn't mention): Y'know, you can really have sex anywhere so long as it hits all the right buttons. I don't care.
Mind games/mind fuck (you know, that nice psychological approach to bend a character to one's will and/or break them): YES, PLEASE.
Food play/sploshing: I can't think of food play without loling forever.
Gore/guro: Not particularly. I don't like gore as a fetish, but I really don't mind violent fic (so long as it's not going over-the-top).
Fight for dominance: YES. Extra points if that expected dynamic is thrown out the window. (I.e., what looks like a submissive character turns out to be extremely dominant.)
Breath play/asphyxiation: No to asphyxiation, but breath play? Maybe.
Hair-pulling/biting/scratching/bruising: Okay!
Gun play/knife play/wand play (knife play does not have to include cutting someone, and you can add some other inanimate object to the list, if you have one!): Y'know, strangely enough, actual weapons in my BDSM (besides whips, chains, that kind of thing) aren't so much of a turn-on, and I don't know why. Probably because of a bit of fail smut RP I did years ago involving knife play. But in any case, eh.
Drugs or intoxication: In a serious context, absolutely! As in, if you're going to explore addiction/intoxication and their consequences as a serious subject, that's pretty cool. If you're doing it as a kink, it gets into shady non-con territory, but there was that one fic I wrote that even I thought was kinda fun if you know what I mean. (Dani knows which one I'm talking about.)
Language kink (accents etc.): YES. Call me offensive/stupid/whatever, but I kinda get turned on by certain accents/languages. Example? I can't understand a word of French, but my French friends can talk to me all day. Another example? ...And now you know why I like the Pokémon anime so much, if you know what I mean.
Squick fics (aka fics that are meant to squick the hell out of you): No.
Have to get married!: Only for the lulz. I fully blame Ranma 1/2 and pretty much 90% of the anime in the 90's for this.
Soul- (life-, heart-, force-, marriage-, wizard-, etc.) bonds: I'm sorry. I kinda lol'd because my brain put these prefixes together wrong and came up with "SOULWIZARD." But seriously, in certain contexts. Example: Read the Bill and Lanette portion of the last post. They totally have some kind of ~*~deep, philosophical bond~*~ that really can't be defined by any coherent words. It's the same kind of bond I see in Dream Gold with Kurorat and Katana, in Good Omens with Aziraphale and Crowley, and tons of other stuff, and it's so cute and fluffy. But then there are other cases which irrationally trigger my :| face at the pairing. Like most of Ash/Misty fic.
Hurt/comfort: OKAY!
Kid!fic: Meh.
Time travel: I need more of this in my life.
AUs: Depends. I've seen a lot of crappy high school AU, so anime fandoms make me go :| at their AU fic. But if it makes sense and is well-written... sure.
Amnesia: See above. Also note that if you don't bother to do your research and just write Hollywood amnesia, then no.
Undercover!gay/Have to pretend to be a couple: You know, I've seen stuff like this that tried to be funny, and it just wasn't. So, I'm going to have to pass on it. I'm not even a super-PC person, and it just comes off as rather silly and borderline offensive to me.
Redeemed!evil character: Depends on how it's handled. That's all I'm saying.
And a meme for you, courtesy of
insanepurin. Plz respond to give me happy fun tiems this week? inb4 someone responds with Bill? AND THEN INB4 LONG-ASS RESPONSE TO THAT FIRST QUESTION?
