All's well that sits in a hotel room and waits for everyone else to get their act together

(That sounds kind of catty, doesn't it? But accurate.)

So the kids and cat and I are settled in a hotel room outside of DC. Well, I say hotel room, I actually mean short-term furnished apartment rental, basically, in a complex full of short-term furnished apartment rentals to other government families in transition. Everyone seems to be adjusting ( Read more... )

60 lb 6-yr old.

Rhys is 58lbs at 9 yrs old. ('course, he's a runt...)

I wish you strength, endurance, and extra-strength caffeine.

Andrew is ALL MUSCLE, omg. It's all the gymnastics, I'm sure. The kid sinks like a stone if he stops moving in the water, it's the only reason he knows how to swim.

I have never met another person who also had a son named Rhys, even virtually! Reece, yes, but never Rhys. I commend your naming choices and spelling acumen. :)

A Welsh father will ensure a) proper spelling of the name and b) that he will have to spell his name for people for the rest of his life.

It has also, given his long hair and often colourful clothing choices, given him c) the need to inform people he's male... the spelling may be traditionally male, but the phonetic is predominantly a girl's name in N. America.

That was so involved a day. You rocked it. It's nice to know the kids can crap out so easily and you see the beauty of two sleeping children in your bed--that was an awesome mind picture.

Noel, we are SO CLOSE to you, we're right around the corner from G Street Fabrics. I'm tempted to just show up at your door one day. :)

I get home from work about 4:30--usually. Would you like to have a meal on Saturday? Joe is interested in seeing you and the kids, and Bill. Let me know what you think.

Actually I was thinking to bring the kids to Arena anyway, if there's a good time to do it, since Andrew's dying to go on a train. Joe can get his chance then.

Saturday, probably not - but only because Bill's due to come back on Saturday, and I think he'll want to stay in. We'll be around for a bit, though, so don't worry you'll miss us.

Wow! My turns-10-a-week-from-today-runt boy is only 54, and that's progress!

You've been seriously busy, missus!

Oh thank gods there are other people with runt-children. :-D

(Around about grade 9, if my son follows his genetics, he will gain 6" in 6 weeks...)

Yeah, I couldn't figure out how I was so exhausted at the end of the days, when I wasn't the one doing the physical packing and carrying - but I was. It was all the stupid little things, really. And the fact that I forgot about having to eat. (I was ready for a peanut butter sandwich... and then realized all the knives were packed! I borrowed one from a neighbor.)

It's this weird mix of too much to do, and not enough to do at all. All the stupid little things you don't think about, really. Do 'em all in one day, and it's more exhausting than you'd think.

(Still better than actually physically packing. Those ladies really did a fantastic job.)
