I don’t know about you, but I always look longingly at the appetizer and dessert sections of a menu when I’m at a restaurant, and very seldom order from either. Which is a shame, because often the most interesting bits of a menu are located there. (Also the most fattening - think of all the appetizers that are fried ( Read more... )

Seriously, immersion blenders are AWESOME. I have a KitchenAid one, I love it desperately. I used it yesterday actually while making apple butter - the instructions said to move the stewed apples into a blender in batches and blend, and I said "DAFAQ WIT DAT" and used my immersion blender instead.

(Okay, I didn't say that, but that was the gist of it.)

I adore my immersion blender. ADORE. My best friend and I each bought one post-college and we lovingly named them, "The hand-fucker" and when we post recipes to each other, "hand-fuck" is regularly used a a verb in the directions. Because we're weird like that.

Perhaps, but it's an accurate assessment of what's going on. Poor food, sitting quite happily in its pot, la-di-da, nothing wrong, when all of a sudden OMG THERE'S A BLENDER IN HERE.

Plus that moment when you're blending and you hit the bottom of the pan and you suddenly think you're about to cut a hole right through your pot, even though you know you can't possibly do that.

Okay, so what's really funny is that I frequently just order an appetizer and then a dessert at a restaurant. They're my favorites! Why not? And, just so you know, I've gone out to lots of really fancy dinners in New Orleans with foodie-type people and I've seen lots of other people do the same thing. Sometimes, they'll get two appetizers and then a dessert. But, yeah. Anyhow, I'm here to say: GO FOR IT!!
