Things I Have Decided

Things I have Decided:

1. I’m going to keep writing BIPOC characters. But, I’m going to ensure that I’m not doing it just to tick off a box, because as much as I hate to admit it, I have definitely done that in the past. (Did I realize I was ticking a box? Maybe. Did I realize how terrible that was? No. Do I regret it now? Oh, yeah. Worst part is, I ( Read more... )

This may seem hypocritical coming from someone who hasn't read a lot of your work recently (I don't read much Sherlock fic - too invested in Who, MCU, Goblin Emperor and Vorkosiverse - and for some reason Omegaverse work never interested me) I am still cheering you on.

I respect and salute your decisions on BIPOC characters. Only yesterday, I unearthed Writing the Other, A Practical Approach by Nisi Shawl and Cynthia Ward, and I plan to read it.

And I can't tell you how much I respect your decisions to own all your work, including your fic. So if you can take hurrahs and kudos from someone like me, please do!

I don't think it's hypocritical at all. Omegaverse is niche stuff, I don't expect everyone to enjoy it. I think it's possible to cheer someone on, even if you don't enjoy what they're producing.

I haven't heard of Writing the Other, I'll have to look it up!

It's not that I haven't owned all the work... but I've made a huge deal of separating Pen's things from Az's things, and trying to keep the two worlds separate. I'm not sure it's worth the effort, honestly - especially as I'm not trying to placate a publishing house, which I think is the main reason why anyone tries to keep those worlds apart. Chances are pretty good I'll never publish traditionally anyway (especially as I'm not even bothering to try), so why put in all the effort? What's that saying about cutting off a hand to save the foot, or something like that?

You're already well beyond me in terms of what you've written and released into the wild; and you've done it with two younglings, something I was unable to manage even though I only had one.

What does BIPOC mean? I am assuming the POC part means person of color.

It's an addition to POC. Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. One of the reasons it's being used instead of POC is to highlight that different ethnicities experience different levels of racism. (Or something along those lines, I may be phrasing it incorrectly.)

You've always impressed me as a thoughtful person. I'm glad you'll revisit the Sherlock you were driven from by others attitudes of what is what. I don't really understand Omiverse but you know how much I think of your writing techniques.
