I got a present in the mail today. It was from Marilyn, my dad's cousin. I hoped that since she was sending a gift she was still coming to the wedding. I opened the padded envelope and the gift was tied the old-fashioned way with a ribbon. The card said Happy Birthday. So, it was a birthday present! Should I open it now, or wait till my real birthday? I hate surprises and I am too curious. I took it upstairs and sat at my desk and opened it. Inside was a picture frame with flowers all around it. And a note. At first I thought the frame was the gift, but that was not like Marilyn. I didn't need to read the note. Tears flooded from my eyes as I saw the photo through the bubble wrap. It was Mom and Daddy on their wedding day.
Finally I took off the bubble wrap and read the enclosed note.
Dear Candy, Happy Birthday! I thought you might like to have a wedding photo of your Mom and Dad since you have a wedding of your own coming up. Are you all set for your big day? I know you'll be beautiful for sure. I'll see you there. Love, Marilyn
On the back it says "Aunt Nellie, From Butch and Hannelore, May 1974" Aunt Nellie was Marilyn's mother, I think.
What a wonderful gift. For anyone who does not know, my dad died in 2002, he killed himself, and I have very few pictures of him, so this is a very nice gift.
